I’m thinking to start a France game and turn revolutionary late game. Are revolutions working properly or should I just stay away?

The system is working fine but it is poorly explained in-game. I'd advise looking up a guide or something about the new Revolution mechanic.
Do revolutions still need to spread to your far away African/Asian colonies for you to get max zeal while they can’t actually spread that quickly outside Europe?
You just need to meet the requirements to fire the disaster. It doesn't need to spread to everything.
