If I understand correctly, the new unrest system is planet-based and each planet will have its own rebels. I think ingame factions should have some mechanics for a larger rebellion, such as taking down the government and establishing a new one with completely new ethics, rather than just liberating a planet. Will you add some new features about this concept? I think the governments in Stellaris are too stable and I really want to see a new system that allows us to experience some revolutions, or coup d'états and wars of succession in the future.

i think this is built into the unrest system? It's unhappy pops that drive unrest, and factions that create unhappy pops. Presumably if a planet revolts, the dominant unhappy faction leads it.

Well, you can have 'revolutions' and 'coups', in the sense of switching your empires governing ethics via changes of attraction, circumstance, and the use of influence to promote or suppress factions....

Planets that rebel are also no longer hostile by default. Apparently they can just peacefully leave?

Whats also odd is that since its a planet at a time, instead of having a united group leaving you, wouldn't you have a cluster of individual planets?

We saw in Twitter that rebelling planets can and will offer to join other empires if the other empires are suitable, and that this could trigger a war with the previous overlords of the rebels. It may well be that if you have a whole sector full of unrest that starts having revolts, newly revolting planets may be strongly encouraged to join whoever revolted first. It's hard to say without experience of the update, though.
