Playing as Papal States around 1600 I'm allied with Spain. The AI's inability to crush rebellions has yielded me Messina in a previous rebellion by Sicily from Spain. Now Sicily (the province) is revolting, and I'm looking forward to completing my conquest of the entire island as soon as Spain calls upon me to honour my alliance. Messina is not garrisoned by me, fortress is small, there's no revolt.
Imagine my surprise when Sicily finally declares independence from Spain and sets up camp in Messina!
So not only do they break loose from Spain - they run off with my province as well, and make it their capital! Can this be right?
