So you have these two situations where peace time is calm and with next to nothing requiring your attention, so you are bombarded with non-sensical events that at best make you scratch your head.

Events being the main, if not only, way to interact with the game really prevents it from being enjoyable in the long term. Emerging stories from mechanics can create thousands of enjoyable and unpredictable scenarios. Pre-scripted events can be enjoyed once, and then you just click on the objectively best option and never think about it.
My hope is that the triggers, tone, and frequency of the current events will at least be fixed or improved with the patch that accompanies Tours and Tournaments.

Since, I see no reason why the developers haven't had long enough to make some improvements to these areas in the long wait between major updates. It would be rather disappointing if this new expansion releases and they did not bother to fix some of the more egregious events and complaints people have been having.

In regards to what you said about pre-scripted events, once this expansion drops they said the focus will shift to developing meatier mechanics. Meaning the game has the potential to become less of an event waiting simulator.

In regards to the events being clicked through, I don't like the idea that it's the default, especially for Crusader Kings of all the Paradox games. CK3 has an issue with the comedic and not really grounded writing that makes 10% of them something that isn't a one-off gag. In CK2 I'd click through events too, but cool ones like battlefield related trauma and a vassal having things to say about your trait (with descriptive blurbs like how you as an arbitrary ruler are more lenient to women) made me more attached to my character and actually made me stop to read them, because with new characters and situations they can be read in different ways.

In CK3 I see someone taking their clothes off at the feast and I think "oh, the event triggered on random count" and click through it knowing it'll fire on another random count and I do not care about random count, because all he does is get chosen for random zany events that I can't tie a narrative around.
