Ok, as I promised long time ago I am reworking the Lithuanian stuff. There are really a LOT of done so far, and there is even more to do. I just finished the events for the 15th century (until Sigismund’s the Old times). I’m going to rework all vanilla stuff as it really looks unrealistic and unhistorical (so I just already used most of old Lith event IDs ;) :D). Also I just fixed a bit old AGCE-EEP stuff (added some more text to the events, fixed several grammar mistakes and such - the problem is that I just made even more in my own events ;)). I hope that my work has some sense to make the game for Lithuania more realistic. Will be happy to hear your opinions, comments and offers.

Also several remarks about the things: the provinces IDs are from MyMap as of now. The names of Lithuanian historical persons were fixed according to historical sources, which is in Old Ruthenian and Latin. This is done mainly to avoid any nationalistic rhetoric again and to make the things more clear as before AGCEEP events had the same persons names here in four languages!.. It for cure could produce much confusion for the people, which do not know the East European historical realities. ;) Also I started new thread as I just think that it will be more convenient to have all the stuff at the first page of the thread.

desc = "The endless struggle between Lithuania and the Teutonic Order continued for about two centuries when on July 15, 1410 at the Battle of Grunwald (Tannenberg) the united Polish-Lithuanian army crushed the Teutonic knights. Since then the power of the Order was constantly declining. 1 February 1411 the Peace of Torun, as one of the gains of this great victory, was ratified. Lithuania received the formal control over Samogitia and the Order relinquished its claims until the death of King Jagiello and Grand Duke Vytautas. However, Vytautas did not leave his attempts to achieve full sovereign rights over Samogitia, and in early 1420s started active diplomatic correspondence with Emperor Sigismund and other European monarchs to prove his claims on the Duchy of Samogitia. Soon the new phase of negotiations started and resulted in the Treaty of Melno signed on September 27, 1422. The Teutonic Order recognized the sovereign rights of the Lithuanian Crown on Samogitia, while Lithuania renounced its claims on Memel (Klaipeda) and all territories of the Neman River mouth (Lithuanian Minor)."

Vytautas united almost all of them and created the system of the voivodships (districts) administrated by the voivodes/palatines (royal governors). The first palatinates were formed at the very heart of Lithuania with the centers in Vilna and Trakai. Several territories saved certain amount of autonomy (Polotsk, Vitebsk, Slutsk), but during the 15th-16th centuries they also were integrated into unitary Lithuanian state."

His first objective was Pskov. In 1426 he invaded the republic and forced it to pay tribute. In 1427 Vytautas made the borderland between Lithuania and Muscovy, known as the Upper Oka principalities, subordinate to him. Officially matters of disscussion were Moldova, Hussites, and a Catholic synod. But in fact, the real issue was the title of King for Vytautas. The Polish embassy, led by chancellor Jan Szafraniec and Zbigniew Olesnicki, the bishop of Krakow, protested harshly. Olesnicki gained an offical statement from Pope Martin V forbidding Vytautas to accept the crown from the hands of Sigismund, on the pretext that the latter hadn't been crowned as Emperor. It was a forceful blow for Sigismund, whose animosity for Poland grew even stronger. The final blow came from Jagiello, who had been threatened by the Poles that the treaty of succession of the crown of Poland signed in 1425 would be revoked if Vytautas was coronated. In 1440, two Ruthenian nobles, brothers Chartoryskis killed Zygmantas in his Trakai castle, and started the second phase of instability in Lithuania. The candidates to take over the throne were Mykolas (son of Zygimont), Svitrigaila and Wladyslaw III of Poland. The latter was elected king of Hungary, and was unable to travel to Lithuania, and the Polish Sejm decided to send Wladyslaw’s brother, Prince Kazimieras as a formal Polish viceroy of Lithuania. During the period of instability in March 1440 the lower classes of Smolensk society (the craftsmen, journeymen, peasants, beggars etc) revolted against the Lithuanian authority. Part of the Smolensk boyars and Lithuanian administration fled from the city; the rest (who were not so lucky) were killed by the furious crowd. The boyars asked for the help of the Lithuanian army to suppress the uprising, while the leaders of the rebels invited Prince Yuri Lugveniyevich of Mstislavl to rule in Smolensk. Prince Yuri organized resistance against the Lithuanians in November 1440 and managed to beat them off. However, in 1441 the uprising was finally stifled and the Lithuanian rule restored in the city."

desc = "In the XIV century the Orthodox Church of Lithuania was subjected to the Metropolitans of Moscow who continued to call themselves ‘the Metropolitans of Kiev’. Since the XIV century several attempts to make Orthodox Church of Lithuania independent form Moscow influence were undertook by the Grand Dukes. This resulted in creation of the Metropoly of Kiev and All Russia with the center in Vilna and the metropolitan residence in Navahradak that subjected directly to Patriarch in Constantinople. 15 November 1416 the synod of Orthodox Church in Navahradak elected Bulgarian Gregory Camblak as a new metropolitan. The same day Grand Duke Vytautas announced the separation of Kievan metropoly from the jurisdiction of Moscow and recognized Gregory Tsamblak as its new head. However already in 1420 Vytautas concluded an agreement with Moscow metropolitan Fotiy who promised not to interfere into the politics of Lithuania. In return Fotiy was again recognized as a single metropolitan of Kiev and Moscow. This question aroused again in 1458 when Grand Duke Kazimieras announced about the separation of Kievan metropoly from Moscow and appointed Gregory Bulgarin new metropolitan of Kiev. This finally made the Orthodox Church of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania independent structure."

The Lithuanian aristocrats felt the absence of their ruler and a lot of them started to dream about the Grand Ducal crown for themselves. Thus in 1456 Lithuanian nobles guided by Jan Gostautas, palatine of Vilna, conspired against Grand Duke Kazimieras with the purpose to dethrone him. Soon the khanate entered the protection of the Ottoman Empire and became their vassals (1475). While the Crimean coast became an Ottoman Kefe sancak, the khans continued to rule in the rest of the peninsula and the northern steppes. With the support of the Ottomans and Muscovy the Tatars started to raid the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and southeastern lands of Poland (Red Ruthenia). The first such raid appeared in 1482 when they attacked Ukraine and plundered Kiev. These raids continued and since 1490 even reached the northern territories of the Lithuanian Grand Duchy, undermining the power of this state. Dozens of thousands Christians were enslaved (taken as yasyr) by the Tatars and later sold at the east markets. For a long time the Lithuanian and Polish armies were helpless against the fast Tatar raids: when the troops were reaching the attacked regions, the Tatars were already on the way home…"

However, instead of the ordinary nobles (szlachta) it favored the power aristocrats (magnates) as the main functions of the state authority were transferred to the Senate (instead of the Sejm), which was headed by the monarch. At the time when it did not change anything for Lithuania, where the power traditionally was in the hands of the most influential aristocrats, which in practice ruled the country through the Council of Nobles (the Pany-Rada), in Poland it provoked great struggle between the szlachta and the magnates. The perspective to base his power on the authoritative magnates did not please the monarch in fact, and later he supported the szlachta in their struggle for power, which opened the road to the increasing of the Sejm’s role both in Poland, and in lesser way in Lithuania."

Both princedoms saved their large autonomy and were ruled by the local boyars. Polotsk had its own princes, which were appointed by the Grand Duke. Several princes of Polotsk even claimed the title of Grand Prince for themselves (such as Prince Andrey and his sons in 1370-1380s). After the death of Andrey in 1399, the new prince was not appointed but Polotsk started to be governed by the viceroys. The monarch was very ill but undertook all measures to arrange an appropriate answer to this huge Tatar invasion. Soon 6.000 soldiers Lithuanian army under the command of Grand Hetman Stanislau Kiszka and Court Marshal Michal Glinski was ready to act against the Tatars. After the death of Andrey in 1399 the new prince was not appointed and instead Polotsk started to be governed by the viceroys. The Tatars attacked such towns as Brest, Kamieniec, Babrujsk, Kojdanava, Turau, Slutsk, Loeu, Kreva and others. In 1506 was marked with new big invasion of the Tatars: 12000 men army under the command of Beti-Hirej and Burnash attacked Polesia and Navahradak regions. They plundered villages near Kletsk, Ashmyany, Mazyr, Brahin, Vaukavysk, Drutsk and even Vitebsk and Polotsk. Minsk and Chachersk were besieged by the Tatars but these sieges failed due to the bravery of the defenders. Right at this time Grand Duke Alaksandaras was in Lithuania. The monarch was very ill but undertook all measures to arrange an appropriate answer to this large Tatar invasion. Soon 6000 Lithuanian army under the command of Grand Hetman Stanislaw Kishka and Court Marshal Michal Glinski was ready to act against the Tatars. The first clash with the Tatars happened near Lida where the Grand Duke and Pany-Rada were staying at this time. The small regiment of the Tatars was totally annihilated by the Lithuanians. Then the army moved through Navahradak, Palonka and Ishkaladz to Kletsk. Near Ishkaladz the Tatar regiment of 500 men was crushed. 6 August the Lithuanians finally reached the main enemy army. Hetman Kishka fell ill and the command of the army was fully taken by Court Marshal Michal Glinski. The mistakes made by the Tatars during the battle predetermined their defeat. The Tatar army was totally annihilated. Almost none of 12000 Tatar army returned home. The Grand Duke heard about the great victory several days before his death in Vilna 18 August 1506. The Battle of Kletsk saved the thousands Ruthenians taken by the Tatars as the yasyr. This victory almost stopped the Tatar raids to the northern lands of Lithuania. Only Ukraine continued to be terrorized by the Tatars for more than 150 years."

desc = "Michal Glinski was a powerful Lithuanian prince of distant Tatar origin. In his youth he was brought to the court of Emperor Maximilian where he converted to Roman Catholicism. In the 1490s he returned to Lithuania and he assumed very powerful position at the court of Grand Duke Alaksandras I. His secret ambition was to create his own independent state composed of Ruthenian lands. This intention was made public by his rival Janusz Zabrzezinski, palatine of Trakai. After accession to the throne new monarch Zygmantas II decided to deprive disloyal nobleman from all his offices. In response Glinski procured Zabrzezinski's assassination and stirred up armed rebellion against the monarch. The rebel army took control of several towns in Eastern Polesia and with the help of the Muscovites besieged Slutsk and Minsk. However, soon royal armies crushed the rebellion. Glinski fled to Muscovy, where Grand Duke Vasily III made him a boyar and even later married his niece, Elena Glinskaya. This provoked new open rivalry between Muscovy and Lithuania in 1512-1522. Glinski still hoped that Vasily would make him a vassal prince. Upon realizing that this would never be done he entered into secret negotiations with Zygmantas II the Old in order to return to Lithuania. The conspiracy was discovered and Michal was imprisoned. Upon Vasily’s death in 1533 Elena became the regent of Muscovy for her son Tsar Ivan IV. She libirated her uncle from prison and made him her counselor and Ivan’s tutor. But Glinski, jealous of the influence acquired on Elena by her lover Prince Obolensky, started to conspire against them. In August 1534 he was again taken into prison where 24 September he finally died."

desc = "Francysk Skaryna was famous as one of the first publishers in Eastern Europe, laying groundwork for the development of the Ruthenian language. He was born in the city of Polotsk in 1490. Most probably Skaryna was initially educated by the Franciscans who since 1498 had their convent in Polotsk. Skaryna graduated from the arts faculty at the University of Krakow in 1506 with a Bachelor of Arts and in 1512 he received doctorate of medicine at the Italian University of Padua. Little is known about Skaryna’s life from 1512 to 1517, but it is surmised that he devoted the years to the study of the techniques of printing and engraving, possibly in Venice, Nuremberg and Augsburg. He must also have begun to prepare his monumental work, the translation of the Bible to Ruthenian. Skaryna printed his first book entitled The Psalter in Ruthenian (Old Belarusian) language on August 6, 1517 in Prague; this work was followed by another twenty-three books printed in Bohemia. He continued his publishng work later in Vilna, where he founded the first printing house in Lithuania. Here in 1525-1527 he published The Acts of the Apostles, The Epistles, and a collection of prayers entitled Malaya Padarozhnaya Knizhica (The Little Itinerary Book). After that date his life seems to have been somewhat unsettled. Later he served as court physician to Duke Albrecht of Prussia in Kцnigsberg. Then Skaryna was employed as private secretary and physician by the Catholic Bishop of Vilna. By 1535 he went back to Prague where he found employment as a royal gardener in the botanical garden newly established in Hradcany castle by King Ferdinand I of Bohemia. There he died about the year 1551."

This masterpiece of the Lithuanian Renaissance poetry was first written by Hussoviani in 1522 during his mission as the secretary of the Grand Ducal embassy in Rome and dedicated specially to Pope Leo X. However, a year later, in October 1523 Hussoviani edited and published it as the new 11 collected poems and ‘Carmen de Bisontis’ with the prosaic dedication to Queen Bona Sforza. The poem berhymes the beauty of the Lithuanian lands, its nature, history and people. The special place in his poem given to Grand Duke Vytautas, whose rule he considered a golden age of Lithuania. During the first half of the 16th century the Lithuanian Renaissance Latin literature became well-known in Europe with the numerous authentic works of such persons as Jan Vislicki, Andrej Rymsza, Jan Radvan, Elias Pielgrymouski, Michalonis Litvani and others."

desc = "The endless struggle between Lithuania and the Teutonic Order continued for about two centuries when on July 15, 1410 at the Battle of Grunwald (Tannenberg) the united Polish-Lithuanian army crushed the Teutonic knights.

The magnates of the Council of Nobles, which practically ruled the Grand Duchy, supported by the great number of the nobility, addressed the monarch with the request to return the Royal Crown of Vytautas taken by the Poles in 1430 and to allow his son Prince Sigismund August to be crowned as the Lithuanian King. Sigismund the Old was positive to transfer the formal authority in Lithuania to his son and allowed him to be crowned but only as the Grand Duke. This was a price paid to please the Polish nobility who for sure would not meet the creation of the Lithuanian kingdom positively. Two months later Sigismund August was also formally elected to the Polish throne."

desc = "Michal Glinski was a powerful Lithuanian prince of distant Tatar origin.

Great work, but I'm against "The Tatars raids of Lithuania" sequence. It's historical, but such big hit in taxes and manpower IMO is against game balance. Have you testet such evenst, with AI as Lithuania and Poland?

Also, the Crimea gains a bit too much money, 2000, from the raids.

I know. It could be reduced of course. However, these events represent the all endless raids since 1480s to 1650s, so I think just to give one big bonus for Tatars for them, instead of making hundred boring similar events for every twenty-fifty years at last.

If you noticed as of now I deleted all three unhistorical vanilla events about the nobles’ privileges, which were reducing taxes in Lithuania randomly (I just left one, which historically granted the nobles the right not to pay taxes from their manors). And it only causes such big loses for Ukraine, as for Lithuania all the taxes and MP are returned with the Battle of Kleck event. Still will be pleased to hear suggestion how to fix those events.
