But I don't reviev games so I can't "speak for myself". It is good if you have done that, but it surerly does not mirror itself in the review. The review from my perspective looks like an guide to the ones that played the first HOI and wonder what HOI2 will get them, almost all focus is on the changes and what is in it. Very little mention how the individual systems work out. Nothing on how diplomacy work out.
This is a little better, constructive critism.

I'd be happy to explain a few things.

First, a game review is not a preview or an add for the manufacturer, I have a limited amount of space to convey my opinion of the game in question. Some sites can and do have several pages to reviews, and they are indeed excellent, but SI does not have that luxury. I have to pare down and cover basic points.

Next, a game review is not meant to be a spoiler. As such, I can't go into every detail of a game, there are a number of subjects I wish I had more space for, such as the new area attack and defence, how the combat modifiers in the game can be punishing if players don't have a proper force mix and avoid paying attention to weather and time of day, but as I said earlier, I have to pick and choose what can and can'r be added.

Third, some have commented on the generous rating for the look of the game, well, its certainly no half life, but it can and will display every tank, plane, and ship type portrayed in the game. The historical portraits alone are a treasure, such attention to detail is wonderful to see in a game. I know the sprites can and will be improved, and the map can be considered bland by some, but that map is multi-display capable, a tremendous advantage in such a game. The style and look selected give a strong feeling for WWII, and this is why I gave it an 8. A little high perhaps, but such attention to detail deserves recognition.

Forth, when a game is a sequel, many players immediately compare it to the previous game, and this was a focus and decision in the review process to give this audience an idea of what is different and what is the same.

If you care to discuss any aspect of the game, I browse the forums, and would be happy to answer to the best of my abilities.
