Um... I wish I could read Swedish. Not that the world should revolve around English, so don't get me wrong.

Can someone describe the basic gist of the review in English? Please?

There is a review posted on 1-23-01 on zdnet Gamespot in English and it says the North American release date is Feb. 21. Its at www.zdnet.com/gamespot/filters/news at the bottom of the page. Anybody know how accurate zdnet is with release dates?

Well after having deciphered the babbling of the Swedish people (what a pityfull excuse for a scandinavian language );

It is sort of a mixed review - he does think the game is great and gives it 9 out of 10 in Playability and Lastability, BUT he remarks on the graphics not being state of the art (although this does not bother him that much), the sound being very poor and the game having to many bugs. He complains that it should be possible to play it right out of the box - and thinks it has been rushed on to the market.

Anyway, I still think it is a pretty good review. Most EU players will probably not care to much about graphics and sound (CIV or Alpha Centauri!); the English/American/Scandinavian versions will all be based on patch 1.07, which means most of the bugs will have disappeared.

I must say....
That in the Swedish version the sound really sux...not completely....the battle sounds and the rest works well but sometimes the music just quits, for 10 minutes or so..
And drops the game from 92% to 82%
And who hell is this guy that wrote this review???
BTW I would really give the dude that signed the last comment about a game thatwas developed in a month A BIG FAT boot up the doo doo hole(anus for y'all that dont get it or has watched south park!!!

I dont think its fair to compare
EU graphics with games like Age of Empire.
Completly different type of game
And the voiceover for the intro?
Who really cares about a intro
for a strategy game? Intro is about 30 sek,
EU game...lets say 10 hours?

I think you have to watch out for not being to protective...this review is hardly an attack against the game (it scores rather nicely and is described in a way that would make me want it..).

Besides without having the game I think that at least some of the criticism is OK. There has been a problem with bugs and AFAIK it does help a LOT to patch it with the newest patch, but most people probably will not do this....

Oh come on....
I don't know anyone that is even half-serious about his games that doesn't check for patches... At least every now and then.... I think it would be nice to have a perfect game out of the box, but as long as the patch IS there and is only 2,5MB it is perfectly downloadable on a 28k modem even...
I agree that the sound of EU isn't up to much, but I don't really want to listen to the sounds, I've got a radio )
But I can't see why he thinks the graphics are bad ? After all that is why the CPU specs are rather low is because there isn't that many animations ....

Sure, you and I and many people I know would get a patch - but I think this game will draw in a quite mixed crowd, both 'hardcore' gamers (that sounds very serius, it is not) and the less experienced 'The only game I ever played was Civilization' kind of people...these last people will not get the patch...

I think the graphics look very nice on the screenshots, but then again - it is not groundbreaking. He has to consider all aspects in his review...

People who don't know about patches in 2001, are not anyone that would by EU anyways, it would scare them, or they would not be able to READ the box.

It has to be brutal for you, Greven and the gang to be reading reviews, comments, criticisms, etc. of your hard work and efforts!
Even if the reviews are good, you still must be nervous having your work held up to such public scrutiny!
But - it goes with the territory, doesn't it.
And when you receive praise in those same public venues, AH YES.... THAT must feel great!!

There's two types of reviewers in this world:

a) the ones that know what they're talking about (experienced, intelligent). In which case I don't care too much if they give EU a medium to bad score. If their points are well laid out and they have convincing arguments, what the hell? It's their opinion.


b) the ones who don't have a clue (see comment Joha quoted), are too biased towards the genre & have little time to read the manual and experiment with the game.

BTW fairly good review, but you should have learned some more of the game before you wrote the article.... made me smile once in a while... '...only play Sweden, Poland-Lithuania, Russia, England, France, Spain, Portugal and Osmanic Empire in the GC'
