I wonder if there are any opportunities for the Commune to spread syndicalism in the Middle East, surely there most be a great many people who are unhappy with their new overlords. The UAR should just release Ethiopia as a puppet- I don't see how the population could be satisfactorily integrated into a Muslim Arab state and it would be far more trouble than it's worth to try.

Just to clarify this, when I ask you about the fate of a country (like Ethiopia for example) I do it because I both want the reader to partecipate and to hear opinions about what will do their specific oppressors do, not what I personaly or the Commune would do. Example, Greece and Turkey: the Commune would probably give these countries their OTL borders, but if the Greek Basileus is quite megalomaniac he may decide to go full conquest or expand also in areas without significant Greek population. Egypt is quite in a similar situation, so the problem is which personality the King has... ;)

@Asalto: really good question, the answer is yes. :p Seriously, we can see the UAR structure similar to the German Empire one, with the difference that the King has not all that power. At the end the Egyptian King is a middle between the Kaiser and the British Queen, without all those powers but more than a simple rappresentative figure. Oh, I think that Palais Bourbon can maintain his name, like the Cremlin (although I know that's not exactly the same...)

@Zhuge Liang: actually I'm trying to strenghten my possible enemies to make my life a little more difficult. The ECON is just is just a piece of a larger puzzle.

And what is cooler than being the King of the Republic. That would be an awesome title indeed.

For Ethiopia: Perhaps a puppet. Some Muslim Oromo lands could be intergrated into UAR, or there could be two Ethiopian puppets; one Christian and one Muslim.

I'm really sorry for the delay, but when RL calls... :eek:o

The calm before the Storm

The 1st of January 2008 was an important date worldwide, when the United Arab Republic granted limited autonomy to the new Republic of Ethiopia, which was going to replace the old millenary Empire. Abyssinia, the only African country never been submitted by anyone, was now forced to give away all the Eritrean and Somalian coasts plus a big chunk of land along the German colonies, and thus being reduced only to her Christian populated areas. [1] The Emperor fled to MittelAfrica, hoping to return to his country one day.

ScreenSave0-18.jpg

The other important news, far more significant geo-strategicaly, was India leaving the Entete. Indian ties with her allies have always been weak, having no particular reason to hate Commune of France or Union of Britain, and remained in the alliance all this time just for fear of a war with China over some disputed mountain passes or against the Sphere for regional supremacy. But the ECON was now threatening the French State and, although it was far less strong than China or Japan, Indian leadership knew that they could not afford 500 millions Muslims partisans in India rise up if a Jihad was to be called. Anyway India didn't want neither to stand alone against China so, following the motto "the enemy of my enemy is my friend", India approached the Sphere. The news was received with great enthusiasm by the Japanese government, which saw this as a great opportunity to finally avenge and defeat China and possibly to obtain some advanced Entete's technologies.

ScreenSave1-12.jpg

The rest of the year went relatively smoothly, with the exception of some terrorists attacks in Algeri and Tunisi that caused 8 deaths and 20 wounded. The world was surprised when, on the evening of 4th November 2008, the semi-unknown Illinois Senator Barack Obama won the presidential election, becoming the first Afro-American President. The year before General Petraeus, wanting to show America that he was not a ruthless Autocrat, allowed elections to be organized for 2008, as if nothing had happened. Indeed, Petraeus was quite sure to be the only eligible candidate, and wanted only to gain full legitimacy of his power. Unfortunately for him, this young Senator was able not only to gain votes in the Great Lakes area thanks to his semi-syndicalist ideas, but also in the Pacific region, where he was seen as the only hope for Democracy to survive. Finally, although the Generalissimo had almost unlimited funds provided by Canada, popular vote and electoral college decreed the victory of the first black president. Immediately Obama took decisive measures, like using public money to save important companies to garantee a job to millions of Americans. [3] Many inhabitants of southern and central states protested against the "Syndie President", but nobody wanted to start another Civil War. But the protests soon ended, ie when the GDP began to grow, surpassing the French and Russian ones and reaching the Chinese one. Obama soon became the idol of the crowds and gained the trust of the citizens, also managing to pass prohibited laws. [3]

ScreenSave2-Copia.jpg

Notice the IC, it will reach 385 effectives in just few months

[1] Funny, this solution is the best both gameplay and ethnic wise...

[2] No global crisis in this reality, untill now at least, so the effects of his maneuvers would have been more evident. And I can't explain how the USA get more than one hundred IC from nowhere...

[3] You know, after two civil wars some too much Unionists or Syndicalists laws are likely to be stopped as soon as possible...

:D

Things are not looking good for Entente, can we expect death of this alliance, by remaining members maybe approaching Mitteleuropa, especially National France? Nationalist French and Germans could forge an alliance under German promise that French mainland will be returned to Nationalists in case of destruction of Commune of France. Great update, eagerly waiting for more.

Not like the Nationalists in Africa can defeat the glorious commune!

Obama is leading a Market Liberal US, I assume that means no compassion for him when you invade the US to bring them true Syndicalism?

@Karaiskandar & Razgriz 2K9: definitely the right move to do, since I think nobody would like to face 500 millions of angry Muslims...

@Zhuge Liang: Entete simply became more western centered. Sure, with India goes the second army in the world, but now the USA have gained a lot of power and their navy is still the first in the world.

@Asalto: Entete is fine, they knew that this was going to happen someday, they just hoped it would have been after the return to the mainland... The British have now calmed down, but as you suggest the Pieds-noirs would do everything possible to get back to France. Unfortunately for them, the German leadership thinks that is better to let the Frogs fight each other and intervene only if strictly needed.

@SovietAmerika: exactly, we will bring the people's revolution to those Monarchists and Imperialists!
You're right about Obama, nothing will save that liberal scum!

What better day than today to write an update, don't you agree? :p

The Greater Asian War

The Greater Asian War (name derived from the 60s war between Russia and China against Japan) or the Asian Front of the Second Great War, as it is also known, has been the biggest conflict in the story of humankind in terms of involved population. Everything started when India left the Entete to join the Greater Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere, completely unbalancing the regional equilibrium. For years peace between Japan and China was granted by the "asymmetrical equilibrium", ie the enourmous Chinese manpower counterbalanced the superior Japanese technology and GDP, but now this small advantage had been lost. Almost completely surrounded by enemies (relations with Turkestan were friendly, since it provided oil and raw materials to Beijing, but had become almost Siberian cold with Russia), Chinese leadership soon became paranoid, concerned about an attack at any time. To show all the might of Chinese war-machine, Chairman Hu Jintao ordered that all the most advanced ships, like the aircraft carrier Varyag (sold by Russia just before the dead of the Tzar Vladimir Romanov) and the newest aircrafts model Chengdu J-10 had to be reunited at Quanzhou on 19 of April 2009. From there an exercitation along the Taiwan strait was planned, with the clear purpose of impress the Sphere and to prevent any act of war against China. Immediately Japan sent the IJN in the strait, to prevent any harum-scarum action from the Chinese navy.

ScreenSave0-19.jpg

j10_01blarge.jpg

Chinese Chengdu J-10

Unfortunately, this only made the Chinese commanders even more paranoid: knowing that the IJN, with at least one real carrier, was approaching their fleet, made them think that the Japanese may have wanted to trap them in the strait. Than that happened: an airliner full of Japanese and Taiwanese civilians started it's flight from Kaohsiung to Seul, following the usual route along the Chinese coast. It's not known if the airplane was really violating the airspace as Chinese reports say, or if it was believed to be a military aircraft, what is certain is that it was hit by an Air-to-air missile and its remains fell few kilometers away from Taywanese coasts. Immediately a message was sent to Tokyo saying that the airplane was flying over a forbidden area, and that Chinese personel would have retrieved what remained. Japanese reply was harsh: the IJN would have reached the accident site and would have performed its own research, with no possibility of negotiation.

ScreenSave0-Copia.jpg

aircraft%20carrier2.jpg

The IJN Akagi moving towards Formosa

As soon as the news arrived, a small fleet moved towards Taipei to create a block against the IJN, with the main purpose to delay the Japanese ships to save the most advanced Chinese vessels, like their only aircraft carrier; the Commanders denied the permission to access the national waters, bur the Japanese replied that those were their national waters, and continued to advance. The small Chinese flotilla could not stand a chance against the far superior Japanese one, so they called the aviation from Quanzhou to receive support. Is still not hundred percent sure who was the first to shoot, although the main theory says that were the Chinese, but what is sure is that that day was the first of the greatest conflict in the world, more than 2 billion against another 1.3 billions.

I am rooting for the Chinese and Russians, they defeated India in Asalto's first AAR, so India may not be to able to rape China as bad as it may seem.

Wonderfull, I just noticed I had forgot to write the date of all this madness... Next update will show the development of the war, so bet for your favorite! :D

@Kurt_Steiner: maybe a bridge over the Taiwan strait? :p

@Karaiskandar: yep, all of East Asia with the exception of Siberia, Indochina and the German colonies is at war now. China is in a really bad position, but she may still have a few tricks up her sleeve... ;)

@Razgriz 2K9: very likely, but they should thank the Indians...

@Zhuge Liang: well, Japan, Indonesia and Philippines are favored by the Ocean, but India, Thailand and Korea may be in danger...

@SovietAmerika: the difference with Asalto's AAR is that in TTL India and Korea are helped by Thailand, Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, and this makes an huge disadvantage for China. Oh, I checked, Russia wasn't allied with China neither in Heirs of Weltkrieg
