Following setup: I am Germany, it is 1945, and after eliminating all major threats in eurasia, i want to proceed to "liberate" africa from the cruel allied oppressors. So I take Rommel and my panzers for a cruise only to see a somewhat strange picture: Wherever I get into allied Italian territory, this territory reverts to their control, as it should. However, as soon as I attack out of these Italian territories, all adjacent ones again become german, even if owned by and national territory of Italy. So I have a line of Italian provinces between german ones, this has happened in Lybia and Ethiopia, but strangely not with Vichy, those provinces in Africa are all German. Also the 0%-infra-provinces don´t turn my color when they are surrounded by axis provinces, but stay british.

I´ve had a few provinces turn italian once without apparent cause, I was wondering if I can trigger a check so that all provinces that are legally owned by my allies revert to their control once i liberate them - as it is now, the map is a patchwork that is simply ugly beyond description.

P.S. Sorry for starting so many threads, but the absence of the forum search really ruins the information database this forum could be, and I sincerely hope it gets reactivated.

You can always use the "Open Negotiations" Diplomatic option to just give (or even SELL!) those provinces to Italy...

I had a similar problem when I played Germany once (did you also liberate North Africa coming from the Caucasus?). I gave up the game because I got fed up with fighting in Africa (as bad as Russia, but less rewarding).
At any rate, for my next game as Germany, I plan to sent a couple of bombers to North Africa from the start and hope they will turn the tide to my Italian allies' favour.

Hmmm... if start a massive attack on british shipping, the consequences for the Brtiish supply situation in North Africa could be worth noting...

what I do is send the unit occupying that province to Italy as an expeditionary force. You can still control the unit and provide directions & even re-take control minutes after.

Anyway, the expeditionary unit under italian control = Italian as far as the AI is concerned. Thus, the Italian owned province, currently under german control will instantly become Italian again.

I often just leave them under the Italian control and then re-direct the units as needed. (as the AI is not too swift sometimes). Just too difficult to supply the province if it stays german. This way, I get to ignore africa as Italy slowly takes it over. (I often provide some TAC's under my control to help out as zero opposition = a slightly faster italian advance...)

I played on a little, apparently there is some complex, if slightly flawed, reasoning going on behind it.

In the course of the year I annexed UK, Portugal, Nat Spain, Blegium and France (within half a month), gaining almost all of Africa as a consequence (South Africa is the last allied stronghold there). A few days later control over vichy french and italian provinces reverted to the control of their owners with few exceptions.

It seems the reasoning behind this is to allow the conqueror his own means to supply his units without being dependent upon allied help. This is good, but needs refining. First, I don´t get why the first line of provinces DOES revert, since those cost you the land connection and compel you to establish convoys. Second, there should be some control over when the provinces revert, either in the negotiations screen or within the controlled province itself.
