Havn't used retinue up to this point as I thought they were useless when I controlled only 3-4 counties, with which I could only field 1 500-men unit. As I control a lot more land now, I started creating them today, 10 of them at first. Then the problem comes.

I found 10 more people just pop up in my court and I have no way to get rid of them. I tried hit the resign button on the retinue screen... more of these mysterious lowborn army men showed up. Finally, I found that the only way to free up court space is to matri-marry them off. Funny thing is, they are still leading MY retinue while technically they are serving another lieges in another realm now.

Why do I have to have a general for every 500-men unit? The only reason for this setup I could think of was to the convenience for the AI to handle retinues, coz they might not know to appoint a general for a retinue? But its just stupid for the human player, and it would break my computer in late game, when I could field 100k+ retinues (100k/500=200 retinues=200 extra courtiers  )

Can't we prompt the AI to appoint leaders for their armies just like making them apoint a guardian when a kid turns 6? Otherwise the game will just break in the mid-late period, when everyone have some retinues, and alot extra courtiers in their court.

One suggestion thats popped up on other threads is for random male characters in the realm to be assigned to them on creation automatically, barons first then landless courtiers and only then newly generated characters or something as it does cause trouble in the late game with the AI courts full.

That's a very good idea, but I'd prefere to leave the choice to the player if to create a noble to lead the retinue with the button or not. As for the Ai, it just could use random courtiers or vassals.
Anyway the retinue system as it works now it's annoying and has to be changed.
