okay.. found the option in battlemanager.. but the "retrofit" button disappears when i try to click it...... do i need to research something?
I have the same problem and I'd guess it's a bug. If you needed to research something I would think it would be greyed out, but this just seems to be an error in the interface. You can right click to get the option but when you move your mouse it disapears.
You do need orbital dry docks to retrofit, once you have it right click on the station in the system fleet tab and click on retrofit.

The problem is that when I right click on the station and it brings up the retrofit option i can't click on it becasue as soon as I move the mouse the retrofit button disapears. I have the tech and found out how to do it but it apears a bug in the interface prevents me from being able to.
Do not do it from battle manager, do it from the fleet list in the system view.

Your probably right, It works just fine from the fleet list now htat i know thats where your supposed to do it.
