There should be some sort of diplomatic bonus for recovering territory for the HRE even if you aren't the emperor.

We have updated our Community Code of Conduct. Please read through the new rules for the forum that are an integral part of Paradox Interactive’s User Agreement.
I think you get a modifier with the emperor but it's really weak. The worst part is that even when you're returning lawful territory to the empire from a power hungry foreigner, you still get the same aggresive expansion as taking any other HRE province, which make no sense. At least remove the AE.

Don't you also still qualify for the 'unlawful imperial territory' kick-in-the-teeth if you take land back for the empire? I know you get a claim, but it's still annoying that you recover the empire's land and Austria decides you're acting 'unlawfully'

Its the double whammy, AE and Unlawful Territory when you just returned a province to empire from France or whoever. The empire should be happy not upset.

If Alsace still has a core on its territory after you conquer it back from France, the empire members still see it as lawfully belonging to whoever the heir of the previous dynasty was. It does seem kind of weird that you would get punished for "reclaiming" imperial territory though, so maybe just no unlawful territory if you conquer HRE land from a nonmember?

afaik if you (as a HRE member) conquer HRE territory from an outsider, the emperor can't hit you with the unlawful territory bat.
However waiving the extra ae you normally get inside the HRE would be nice.
