My son has restrict marriage on, yet he constantly cancels the betrothal I arrange for him. Is this WAD? Because it's incredibly annoying and pretty much against the whole point of restricting one's marriage if he can just freely cancel it anytime he wishes. Now I have to look at him every month, because I don't want his amazing bride to be snatched by somebody else and keep resending the betrothals. Come on Paradox, srsly?!

maybe he cancels the betrothals *because* you set that checkbox?

not sure how "restrict marriage" is supposed to work. maybe it just makes sure that the person with that option does not get married until the restricion is lifted (or becomes invalid)

Is he landed if he is he can brake off a betrothal and restricting won’t work on him
Yes, I restricted his marriage precisely because I planned to land him and wanted to make sure he marries whom I want him to.

Yup, this is the case. It's quite annoying.
That is not the case, I can normally select his bride/betrothal for him, even if she isn't in my court. Basically I make the decision on whom he gets to marry, but he can still break the betrothal. Seems like an oversight by the devs.

I've solved the issue by betrothing the girl to my other son and when she reached adulthood, I broke the betrothal and arranged a normal marriage between her and my heir. And it worked just fine.

I know how the feature works. It's not an oversight, it's an outright bug. If you restrict marriage the AI not only can break betrothals, it breaks them 100% of the time, even when it normally wouldn't. If you'd just unchecked the box immediately after the betrothal was accepted he would most likely have stuck with it.

Ah, I see. Thanks for clarifying, will keep it in mind for the future. Is it a known bug/has it been reported?

It took me a loooong time to figure out how this worked. Set restrict marriage if you want them to stay unmarried. After it's arranged, uncheck it or the AI will cancel it.

I've run into a bug where an AI won't accept any marriage offer because "another player" controls who they marry. That player was me but through them being moving to a new court and my succession somehow the receipt was lost no one was allowed to make a decision.

I remember this bug was reported soon after the "restrict marriage" checkbox appeared with Jade Dragon. It obviously isn't a priority.
