Restoring Roman Empire one barony at a time

I'm trying to restore the Roman Empire, but I need to meet the requirement to have full control over a few remaining Duchies. One of them in particular, Alexandria, has about 6-8 baronies owned by the Sultan of Egypt. Why in the world am I only allowed to declare war for a single barony at a time? It's nonsense. It'd be easier if I somehow handed the whole duchy over to Egypt and took it all back with a holy war.

It's not an option. I own the duchy and all the counties in it, just not every barony.

How did Egypt end up keeping the baronies when you hold all the counties and the duke title? How did you go about getting the duchy?

I don't know, sometimes that happens to me after a holy war. I think maybe the baronies weren't considered to be under vassalage of that duchy within that realm at the time I took it? It's annoying in any case.

I've had this as well, but I think it's due to muslim infighting.

How you can solve this: check who the liege of these baronies is/are. It's probably a count somewhere close by. Then, declare a holy war for the duchy he belongs to and those holdings should become yours as well.

maybe. Even so, had you declared a holy war on the other person holding the baronies you would have only been able to declare for one barony as well. I would think, since they're not holding any counties or titles except the baronies. It's quite an odd and annoying scenario. I don't think there is a way around going for one barony at a time, despite how tedious and time consuming it would be. Hopefully, they don't have too many baronies.

When you got the Duchy, the baronies were owned by another ruler. Thus, you only got the counties and not all the baronies/cities/etc within the duchy. This happens frequently when conquering new areas. If you don't care about enemy opinion, you can always break the truce and keep attacking. Breaking truces has no significant negative consequence, especially when breaking a truce with an enemy religion (even breaking truces with enemies of your own religion won't really hurt unless you rely on ally rulers since only the other same religion rulers get the negative opinion modifier.

Aye, sometimes this can happen and you'll have different realms owning chunks of a county long before you holy war. I'm a little shocked it still hasn't be addressed... you can holy war for the entire county, so long as the capital is held by a heathen. Same with de jure claims in general... had an instance in a game a while back where England held two chunks of some county in the Duchy of Leinster, but only the city and the bishopric. The capital barony and the county itself was property of my direct vassal, the Duke of Leinster.

So had England held all of the county, I could've pressed a de jure claim for the whole thing for my vassal. But instead we had to fight two wars to gain only a holding at a time. At the very least, we need to be able to press a "County Claim all in County X" CB. I'm cool with not being able to press every single county claim at once, but we should at least be able to reclaim a county at a time.
