Currently playing a shattered world Constantinople game starting at the Charlemagne bookmark, I've formed the byzantine empire and the Constantine bishopric (controlled by iconoclasts) is the last territory of imperial tier 1 I don't have.

My issue is the decision to Restore the Ecumenical Patriarch makes the church the holding capital of Constantinople and gives the bishop control of the county, losing me my capital. Once I lose that an event pops up that dismantles my byzantine empire into my vassal kingdoms. However without doing this the orthodox faith wont have a head for the rest of my game and I can't restore Rome through reconquest.

I can war the current bishop ruler but those options all leave me leading a theocracy which the game doesn't allow and its gameover. Having a vassal king war the bishop makes them a theocracy and gives them independence but won't restore the Ecumenical Patriarch.

Again even if i war the bishop after he takes Constantinople the county capital holding remains a church.

So at the moment i'm stuck, with the main option being to edit the files and remove that bishopric from the conquest requirements. it would still leave me without a head of church and a stuck decision for the rest of the game.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Solved by attacking the new Patriarch early in the year with a rushed siege before the dismantle event appeared, then revoking the new barony of Constantinople changed it to the county capital title once I owned it.
