I think HerrWeltkrieg's scenario would be far more likely, leading to a seriously different world war, as neither Austria nor Hungary had much of an army at that point, and the Czechs were busily snuggling up to the bear to their east, while trying to maintain their fading alliances with YUG (who were supported by France) and ROM against the long-deceased A-H Empire. Italy had offered some sort of protection to Austria, and was supportive of Hungary, and Germany had a vested interest in keeping AUS out of anyone else's hands. The UK was trying to maintain some sort of neutrality in terms of the Little Entente situation, and would probably not have followed France in supporting an offensive war against the former A-H members. That puts CZE (possibly with limited Soviet support), YUG, ROM, and FRA up against AUS, HUN, ITA, and GER in 1936, at a time when nobody was really ready for war. Poland and the UK would be torn by conflicts of interest, and might or might not intervene at some point.
