about the resources from the colonies, following input for Congo (Belgian colonie) =

- rubber,
- coal,

"quote Winkler Prins enclyclopedia = Belgium started up a programm of plantations (including rubber) and mining activities in Congo in the years 1920-1930".

possibly also steel, have no confirmation about that one. But no fears, Belgium provinces themselves had significant steel industries...

other colonies can be added...

Italian Somaliland, Libya and Eritrea produced only some fruits and wool, there was coffee in Somaliland. Ethiopia had also some gold and platinum in the western ragions.
Albania produced some oil, iron and chrome.

I've already started to plan my first HOI Game, as Italy;). But I’ve been wondering where I'll get Oil and Rubber from. You seem to have the Italian angle well and truly covered Wido:D, so do you know were Italy got these resources from in WWII? I know that Italy built a few large sub whose job was to transport rubber from Japan but was there any closer source?

A lot of the resources we now think of weren't really discovered until after the war. Alberta oil wasn't really discovered until the 1947, for example.

The oil came from Albania (really a few) and from Rumania. But when Rumania entered the Axis and the Germans took control of it, most of Rumanian oil went to Germany, then Germans gave some fuel to Italy. Here is an interesting history of the supplies of fuel to Italy, expecially about the fuel to the navy: The Oil Fuel Issue.
About rubber, there was an experimental factory of sintetic rubber, founded in 1938, near Terni, in Umbria, central Italy, but its production was tiny. Most of the rubber needed came from Germany and from stocks.
I think we will have to make large stocks of oil and rubber before the war, if we'll play with Italy. :(

Brief note about oil:
Not produced in North Africa or the Middle East until after the war. Thus the importance of Romania, Caucasus Russia, and Texas.;)

Interesting. I'd always assumed that the Axis powers were trying to capture the middle eastern oil in the desert campaign.

Are you saying that the oil was unknown, or merely untapped? There wasn't ANY oil production in the Middle East during the war?

it should be possible to increase oil production in middle east by tech. wouldnt it ?
otherwise it would be not interesting to conquer that part of the world.

It is a great land route to India or southern Soviet Union, but it isn't really valuable in itself, although if you are strapped for oil it does have some production.

Presumably you can increase production as well, at least somewhat...

Thanks for that Wido, your public appreciate it:D I read that article I didn't know that the situation was that bad. It was nice of the Germans to 'Loan' that captured French fuel, it saved the Italian fleet from having to scuttle itself ;)

A common misnomer. The Axis - and specifically, the Germans - had no real long-term strategy for the North African campaign other than to prop up the Italians and tie down as many British & Commonwealth forces as possible. Rommel exceeded his original mission in this regard, embarking on an ambitious scheme of conquest for which he never received (nor probably could have received) the resources to accomplish. The Axis 'grand strategy' of driving into the Middle East and perhaps linking up with the Eastern Front via the Caucausus is a largely post-factum invention. Hitler had little interest in the Mediterranean world, and his strategic decisions tend to reflect that.

Well, it was divided by the Allies as war-booty, not a better end. :(

On the other hand, the cartoonist that created Beetle Bailey? got as his sole mission in WW2 to destroy millions of dollars woth of military equipment in Italy, since it wasn't worth the money to ship it back to the states, and it would have completely destroyed the Italian economy to try to sell it on place.

(Maybe not millions of dollars, but at least lots)
