Hmm, nice progress against the Soviets in Poland and around there. Funny how the Germans still end up fighting the Soviets, even if old adolf isnt leading them :p

Make some events that will turn Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Italy and Greece into allied puppets... As for Portugal and Spain - occupation of those looks good :). Are you planning to liberate baltic states?

In the town named after famed Broadway producer Max Bialystok, 40,000 surrounded troops of the U.S.S.R. surrender to German forces.
Bialystok is "clean river" from old polish :p

did not read an AAR for a long time and missed this one... how it could happen? veeeerty nice AAR!

go on, brave Czechs, and kick all those, who's mistaken you with a sacrifice lamb!

tak se patří, nakopat zadek každému, kdo si vás plete s obětním beránkem! (roughly the same in Czech as what is in the last line in English ;))

how is your MP? it was a nightmare in my CSR game, any time out off MP ;)
and how do partisans hamper your TC in your new "cores" (Austria, Hungary) I spent tons of MP only to calm the partisans down, I cannot release all annexed countries not to kill my IC/TC and research...

Nah. Throw them together into the united states of Baltistan.

Or better yet, have them name themselves Czecho-Slovako-Lithuania, Czecho-Slovako-Latvia and Czecho-Slovako-Estonia honor of their liberators from Soviet occupation.

Anyways... nice progress!! Looks like the Czechoslovakian Alliance is on the romp through Russia. It's interesting to see how badly the USSR performs if it never gets its Great Patriotic War boosts...

How is Finnland doing, anyways?

That is one scary France. Makes me wonder how the war in Asia will be different with a France unthreatened in Europe and able to defend Vietnam...

hah with the soon fall of Italy and Spain(unofficially you can say they've lost already) it will free up even more forces for your cause against the Russians. Although that sthe first time I see Japan keep it's "earnings". That IS bad news for the French and British holdings in the Far East. Then you see Japan attacks Russia.

billy bob:
The problem with my game is that there is practically no one left to declare war on me. Wait, that's not a problem!

Terraferma:
Yes, I have seen French forces around the front but not in any significant numbers. As for Japan, it is just another oddity in an already odd game.

Raph:
Thanks, I'm glad it could hold your interest!

GhostWriter:
Well, the Japanese can't be all that scary when they have all of China to garrison. On an unrelated note, congratulations on fan of the week. Truly well disserved.

General Jac:
Indeed, which is one reason why France shouldn't have taken all that territory from Yugoslavia.

Specialist290:
Not just Czechoslovakians, but Germans and Poles too. Everybody kick Soviet tail!

Vann the Red:
I still think that French Indochina is un-garrisoned. Pretty much the same for British India too. So the initial war might be worse for the allies on the continent than in history.

Karl Martell:
I'm very happy with our performance against the communists. As to Finland, the winter war never happened. They are thus doing fine. I have influenced them to +75 relations, though I doubt they'll join the Allies.

Deus:
No problem.

pjrap:
Yes, it is certainly not historical. As to Lithuania, I would love to grant them their freedom, but I cannot. I don't know why, but it doesn't show up in the liberate nation box. I will check to see if I control all their territory, though I'm pretty sure I do.

tp640871:
I know, incredible isn't it?

Gaarq:
I saw your AAR in the librAARy, good stuff. Manpower is looking pretty good, as I did not allocate any IC for reinforcement until June 25th (waiting on an HQ build), so it reached a highpoint of 65. It is currently (Aug. 1st 1940) at 39. partisans aren’t really a problem, as I have enough TC and garrisons to handle them. The big drain on TC comes from the huge chunks of the U.S.S.R. I'm occupying. The initial cure for this is to liberate countries, of course, but then another problem occurs. After the border countries are released, you end up with huge countries like Russia or Siberia.

Akaki:
Nah, I'm only messing with Yugoslavia because the peace treaty made no sense. If France had annexed them outright, I would have accepted it and moved on. However, I'm not going to abide something as ludicrous as what actually happened; making a British puppet with seemingly random territory while France takes the majority of the country? Ridiculous, it had to be addressed. As for the rest, I'll let France decide on what to do.

Also, I never think "clean" when I think of Bialystok.

Spitfire_Pilot:
Yes, the similarities to another invasion of the Soviet Union are a little spooky. I just wish I had as many tanks as those other Germans did.

lifeless:
For now, you are correct. I don't have a navy or adjacent territory, so unless Japan invades Europe I won't be much use against Japan. The Soviet Union does border Japan though...

mk11:
Actually, Communist China has managed to gain some territory against Japan. Probably because most of the Japanese army is tied up fighting partisans. Just a guess.

Duke of Wellington:
I wish I could give you an answer, but I couldn't predict what the AI has done so far, so who knows. If I were Japan, I might declare war but Chinese partisans have to be bogging them down considerably.

Yoy21:
Exactly why I will fix it. I'm glad you understand.

Morpheus506:
I know, France a military powerhouse after WWII? Who would have guessed?

OAM:
Thanks.

I hope these picture intensive updates aren't too hard on any internet connections. :) The problem is, even if I only show encirclements or major developments, I still wind up with over thirty screenshots every two months. Sorry. But just imagine if I showed every battle!

June begins with excellent news from France.
endofgreece2su.jpg

Apparently a large number of Greek troops were in Sicily, not thinking that Greece herself would be in any danger until it was too late.

Less than a week later, France makes another announcement.
endofbulgaria2yx.jpg

This leaves the Axis with only Sicily, Madrid and a few surrounding provinces and the Cape Verde Islands. The Islands are Portugal’s last victory point province and are undefended but no one seems to care. Apparently the British are too incredulous about how Czechoslovakia and France have more or less conquered Europe to properly order an invasion.

On the technological front, Pre-Planned Defense Doctrine and Production Control were fully fleshed out and implemented. No new land doctrines will be investigated for some time (I believe the next historical year for them is 1941 or 1942 and I don’t want the penalty without blueprints to offset). To replace these projects, a new tactical bombing doctrine and more industrial methods are chosen.
techjune19407ia.jpg

After about half a month, I trade with Britain for some concepts around this “line of assemblage.”

The war with the Soviets continues and sees more and more battles won by Allied forces.
The smallest of these victories begins the month at around Mogilev Podolski.
mogilevpodolskiepocket0ko.jpg

Size isn’t everything…

Our spies within the Kremlin continue to give us updated estimates of Soviet forces.
sovietinteljune19401gf.jpg

In about a month, Allied forces have destroyed about a quarter of all Soviet ground forces. Now to get the rest of them!

rigapocket8je.jpg

The attempted encirclement of Riga is complete and the port town surrenders with six divisions of Communist troops after around six hours of fighting. This leaves the northern forces with a new mission: clear Estonia of Soviet troops.

June 19th, 1940 proves to be an important day, as the capitals of the Byelorussian and Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republics fall to a combination of German and Polish forces.
minsk0nu.jpg

kiev5ij.jpg

With this occasion, an allied meeting is called in Warsaw. There, it is determined that Poland shall be responsible for the creation of a Byelorussian state, while Czechoslovakia will create the Ukraine.* They will cooperate in whatever means are necessary to accomplish these mandates. Dependant on the complete liberation of these territories, of course.
*In terms of gameplay, this means that I will mod the game to give Poland my Byelorussian territory and me Poland’s Ukrainian territory, and then liberate both nations. Ukraine will be a Czechoslovakian puppet while Belarus will be a Polish puppet.

General Luza reveals his fairly simple plan for the liberation of Estonia.
northernplan23ql.jpg

Czechoslovakian forces consisting of 9 infantry divisions and Luza’s own Mobile Army will advance to the Baltic cost, thus trapping all Soviet forces in Estonia. 9 divisions of German infantry, aided by limited and erratic French action, will then separate and elimination the red formations. This plan also provides an obvious spring board to an assault on Leningrad, the northern forces first large goal.

mozyrpocket1qu.jpg

Another pocket created and eliminated. This is becoming routine and does not look to end anytime soon.

Always nice to hear from France! Apparently, the loss of Greek forces proved enough to push Italy over the brink. Also notice the precarious position of Franco!

After one year and four months of war, the last battle for Polish territory is waged on July 4th, 1940. Hurray for complete independence!
polandliberatedjuly19409xe.jpg

Five days after the last battle for Poland, German and Czechoslovakian forces in the Southern Sector execute the largest (territory wise) encirclement of the Soviet campaign.
southernplanjuly19409ng.jpg

It is estimated that there are seven Soviet divisions now cut off from Moscow.

In the Northern Sector, encirclements are taking place, though on a slightly smaller scale.
vorupocket3rq.jpg

There appears to be around five additional divisions in the Estonian pocket when it is closed on July 13th.
leningradfirstassault9fx.jpg

The attack on Leningrad is one of opportunity, and is eventually beaten back by Soviet reinforcements.

Six more Communist units are captured in the flat plains of the central sector in mid-July.
poltavapocket0jb.jpg

gomelpocket0dd.jpg

Estonia is cleared of Bolshevik forces while Czechoslovakian infantry marches on Luga to support a second attack on Leningrad.
narvapocket6hq.jpg

Yet another two pockets are reduced on July 20th, including a large army in the Ukraine.

Anyone else find it humorous that German troops are creating a greater Poland here?

Shame you can't liberate a join Baltic States in the manner of Scandanavia (Hanseatic League reborn?). The individual countries cannot contribute much if you liberate them, but together, maybe.

Wonder if the AI needs some tweaks to get France to remember her Asian possessions when Germany isn't breathing down her neck? They seem to be kicking butt and taking names in this timeline.
