requirements for nat. spain to join the axis

Well the topic is the question. In other games ( not core ) after conquering Suez or holding north africa nat. spain could join the axis.
In my current game italy holds suez, germany even won against the sov. but spain still won't join ( 200 relation, chance 0% )
Is there an event? Are there other requirements in core ?

Nothing specific in CORE, although it may be that SPA has a very high neutrality setting (like Finland does before Barbarossa) and thus won't join any alliance. But I am not aware of any specific prohibition on them joining the Axis, as such.

Ideally, there would be a Hendaya meeting type event, and if Hitler agreed to the rather large list of Franco's demands, then I guess SPA would think about joining the Axis, assuming that the promised items turned up, and Franco could see some longer term benefit to it.

it seems that after the civil war nat spain has the disarmament event. After this event spain has full isolation slider settings, thus never accepts an alliance. I think nat spain was somehow biased towards isolation, but there should still be a chance for the axis to get spain into the alliance.

I'd say Spain was definately biased towards Isolationism after the SCW. They might decide to get into the Axis at one time, but only at some serious gain. Hence Franco's shopping list at the Hendaya meeting. Mussolini for one whould not have had the best of ideas, should Hitler have agreed to it, given his ambitions for a Mare Nostrum.

I'd expect that you could get SPA to join in by making repeated Diplomacy attempts. Eventually you should influence the Slider settings enough to reduce the Isolationism Slidr to a level where they will join. This might take quite a few tries.

Odd, I have the opposite problem: NatSpain and Portugal are EAGER to join an alliance.

ANY alliance. At least, sometime after 1943.

So far, it's annoying that I have to keep one eye on them, because they're prone to DOWing USSR on their own and they keep pestering me with alliance offers. Portugal in particular is a loose cannon, they'll join any faction.
