Sometimes a war stalls because you occupy a province that the allied warleader AI wants for itself. In such cases, the AI should request that you transfer occupation to them. Refusal should give you a large opinion penalty, but also help the AI better decide to end the war (rather than wait for max war exhaustion).
It could also be useful for players against weak and fearful allied nations that occupy their own goals.
