City builders by their nature are single player. For me it is about design and making things work.
It can takes a long time to build up your city, a little at a time. An hour here oe there over months. This will not work in multiplayer.
City Builder multiplayer has been tried and failed badly at least twice before - Cities XL and SimCity 2013 were both conceived as multi-player.
Didn't work.

I'd rather CO focus on the game mechanics and improving on the base, rather than go off in the multi-player void.

And this is billed as "old style" city builder - and in the olden days, there was no multiplayer.

I fully agree that you want a game that is the city builder game you or we all wait for ;), however I will not stop to push it and as long as the Dev. are think they have to implement more fun stuff, I'm fine with it.

But one day maybe I have the luck that they happy with the game they have and are able to take a look into Multiplayer.

I think until now we do not have one city builder game that created a good multiplayer game!
But I would bet on this Dev. Team that they are able to do so.

For example the fun in Minecraft for me is to build something with your friends. This kind of fun and of course the difficult of to build it would be great in such a game.
Just let two people work together on one city, dont trade or stop anything.
If they want to "sell" places or something they can do it in "sandbox multiplayer" as well.

Maybe a Cities: Skylines 2 feature?? (If you decide to make a sequel)

Please not.
If CO / Para support the game with content (free+paid), keep the game up to date with patches, optimizing, fine-tuning and try to realise stuff thats not on their list for now but could be a nice feature ... then we dont need a skylines 2 in the next 5+ years.

Cities XL - Tried Failed came out as SP - Servers Closed

SimCity 2013 - Tried Failed released patch for SP

Simcity 4 - Had a multiplayer function - NEVER saw or heard of anyone using it.

C:SL - No Multiplayer = 99.99% Happy Core Community.

*EDIT*

If you want multiplayer... invite your friend(s) over and play together on the machine. DO NOT make CO/Para use their resources on a ridiculous aspect of a game that is essentially a sandbox hobby (for a lot of people)

We stand by that original statement. There are just so, so many cool things to add to this game as a SP experience that making MP possible would just be horrible feature creep.

It's not that it's not cool. Just not in our scope :)

Thank you very much. I want this game to be single player, and single player only. #downwithmultiplayer

It linked you to a server where you could "trade" map tiles, or work on them concurrently. I clicked it once, not a fun time.

It didn't link you to "a server where you could "trade" map tiles, or work on them concurrently", it linked to Simcity.com.

People played "multiplayer" at times by exchanging game saves for cities in a region map but it was just gamesave exchange, calling that "multiplayer" is far stretched.

It could be used that way, but yes it was a VERY CRUDE interpretation of MP.

If you heard of Joerg at Simtropolis, him and I played Halycon Sound concurrently by having a large map and two starting positions. We traded nightly over MSN Messenger (I know "Old School") Until my PC couldn't handle it anymore.

That is the Thread, unfortunately the pictures no longer work... I am MTLT.

Yes, that was called PBEM (play by e-mail) in some hc strategy games. More like sharing single player on the same computer than real MP, because there's no net code etc.
But that's enough for the history lesson.

Want MP, play SC2013.
I shouldn't be even in C:S2. Huge drain of developer time and even more of a distraction. It can shape the SP side too much and these games live or die by their SP experience.
High risk, low reward.
Consider also the thing that CO has very little experience in turning their engine / simulation into MP games.
