The HOI series has a great reputation for being easily modified by the user itself. This is done by entering the game files and changing certain aspects of text files in the game folder itself.

I think it would be a good idea to implement an in game interface that allows you to do this. Kind of using the F12 prompt to trigger cheats or events but as a real feature.

Let's say you have been playing a long campaign that you enjoy and you realize that its going to end before you want it because your AI opponents aren't putting up a good fight enough and you want to throw them some extra IC, supplies or what-not. Then you could open this interface and add these factors to a certain nation. Wouldnt that be handy?

This option should only be available in single player games to prevent from cheating in MP playing. (which can easily be done anyways)

I mean it's not like its not possible to do this anyways, its just more complicated and takes more effort to manually manipulate text files outside the game.

Do you think of the Civ 4 world builder? While it would be nice, I very much doubt it's a feature that warrants the considerable extra effort. I would rather have them spend time on other stuff.

I'm not talking about a scenario designer. I'm talking about modifying certain scenario parameters in an ongoing campaign. It's basically changing some integers in a text document through a game interface. That's what you do with all the interface of the game. Maybe just add some cheats for other nations than your own would be an easier solution, come to think about it.

That's already possible by writing special "cheat" events that you trigger via the console. I am sure that this will be possible in HoI3 too.

How do trigger them for "other nations than your own"? Ie. how do you add resources to a nation that you aren't playing?

You create your triger, and run it with the country tag in the console:
event xxxx JAP will apply the event to Japan

while I don´t understand much about coding, adding interfaces and everything connected to it DOES take a lot of time, not to mention the testing and additional QA you gotta do (which for something like this would be quite extensive since you´d have to test all possible uses or get a horrible forum outcry)...

I for one can´t script for squat and even I manage to whip up an event or two in the paradox games :D

I would extremely excited if there was an A) custom event maker. B) a save game editor.

B would help me in those odd situations where I own all of Russia, want to release it. but the damn dirty Brits control Archangelsk, or when the Soviets throw a curveball at you and land in Kiel.

Well, of course it would take an effort to include this but its only expanding on already existing features. Its not an idea that would demand to include a totally new game design or anything (like some people asking for fx a tactical combat interface to be added etc.) Using any already existing interface in the game modifies the game files that are listed in any save file. I suppose what I'm suggesting PD to do is to include an interface for cheat codes or something. It's not extremely important that this is in a release but a way more useful addition than some other suggestions I see flying around in here in my book at least.

It could be very useful in a MP game fx. One guys crashes or have severe lag or something warranting a refund of some sort. "Would you be ok with 10.000 supplies as a compensation? Ok, just let me enter that in the editor interface and we are ready to go again!" Instead of saving, disconnecting, editing the scenario file, meeting again in vnet, reconnecting and restarting again.

Also it would help people that aren't comfortable (I am but its a hazzle) modifying their save files in order to balance ongoing campaigns the way they want them to run.

It's just a suggestion that maybe PD hasn't thought of yet. I don't expect it to be in the relese but I'd rather see them do this than modifying borders and province names somewhere in Outer Mongolia or other such suggestions I see in these forums. :)

Writing events is fairly easy and you can easly mod your own (on-going game). Modding HoI seems difficult at first but you can learn it very quick and then there is also the modding section of this forum. Where there is always someone who will help you.

I would rather see more time invested into the AI and such than in an editor when you already can edit the game at so many points.

Edit the savegame: get the province ID from the online HOI2 map

search the for "ownedprovinces" of the UK in the save game, delete the province ID number. Do the same with UK's "controlledprovinces".

Search for you own country "controlledprovinces" and "ownedprovinces" in the save game and add the province ID number there. Save and profit.

Plus Paradox has not had a history of supporting any editors..... i dont see any official editor for EU3 (the last one i have seen is for HOI2 -- and that one was never supported)

Concentrate on gameplay... there will be plenty of Modders out there willing to help anyone with simple script mods.

Answer... pause game. save game. load game as UK. Make legal owner a part of your alliance. Give province to legal owner (acceptall cheat). Kick legal owner out of the alliance. save game. load game as original player. carry on.

But that "cancels" all your missions you have set. So if you had 30 garrisons set to anti partizan you have to set them again IIRC.

I thought that every day the game checks to see if Garrison units have no mission and if they do they are automatically set to Anti-Partisan duty.... hmmmm
