Steiner and Kurita are in the beta files.

They may be on the other side of the IS from this section of the periphery, but they will still want to have people here to keep track of what the other great houses and periphery states are doing.

Nothing like giving a periphery state a bit of a boost if it will cause a bit of trouble for Liao, Marik or Davions hey?

I said they weren’t contract employers in any of the star systems, search for them there and you wont find them. They still exist as a faction of course, for example your pilots origins may be from there, but the beta files don’t show them as someone you can work for.

Interesting... hmm.
Especially given HBS has stated on multiple occasions that all Five Great Houses will be pursuing their own Interests, while looking to counter the Interests of their Rivals in the Rimward Periphery.

I imagine the event system may play into that too. Get that Kurita origins tag on a MechWarrior, and see what comes of it...

Exactly. I hope the Event System gets some Press, I would love to read up on its development and get some Industry "takes" on it. If "Combat" is the beating heart of BATTLETECH, I suspect the Event System might be the Soul... with shades of the Conscience of its Solo-Campaign.

I think the various houses will be offering contracts to us as well. They may not be in control of most of the planets in the area we will be in but there is enough scope for various types of contract that they could give.

Lore-wise, 3025 IS Great Houses play their cards on whatever table can hurt the other four comptetitors (five if you include ComStar and its occasional shady intervention to keep the status quo). So it's all but inconceivable that even on the opposite side of the Periphery frontier along the 5-6 hour IS "clock" Lyran and Draconis agents are pursuing their States' agenda by raising some havoc around to damage their rivals.

From the Campaign Mission Video, we can see that Independent Miners can be Employers... though perhaps they are aggregated with other similar Employers under the "Faction_NoFaction" group.

Or maybe HBS has continued to refine and nuance this aspect of the Solo-Campaign, designating additional Factions.

I can't wait till Launch to see all this play out. : ).
Here's a prognostication....PH's reputation with the Aurigan Restoration faction is going to be absolutely abysmal.....:p

How true and when that happens you can post it next to the other achievement with a similar difficulty level. ("Stomped into the Floor by the Four" ...JV wins a match with a quad mech) :D

As i understand it, there is a General Reputation Score that for example applies to Factions you've not yet taken a contract from. And then there are Faction-specific Reputation Scores that rise and fall based on both how well (or not) you've completed (or not) Contracts for them, as well as IIRC whether yout other Contracts have negatively impacted their Factional Interest. Of course I could be wrong.

I think I remember from a Q&A that losing Reputation is entirely, or almost entirely, about failing your employer, not about taking contracts against a faction. Like, there might be a few instances (perhaps certain mission types) where your behavior on the job negatively affects how your opponents think of you, but by and large it's letting down the people who pay you that you have to worry about.

Which makes sense to me. If every reputation gain from a successful mission was offset by an equal hit to your reputation among your opponents, you'd be treading water, never really getting anywhere.

I think your right, mercinarys are mercenary and if a power got down on every mercenary that took a job against them they would soon run out of mercinarys to hire.

. . . so, Draconis Combine?

"Equal Hit" ~ not hardly, it would have to be IMO considerably less.

And you may be right, in my quest to take any and all contracts against Davion Interests in the Rimward Periphery... there may be no consequences or ramifications for my eventually becoming the Rimward Scourge of All-Things-Davion!!! This will be another angle of the Solo-Campaign I am looking forward getting my hands on. I'll keep track of all the damage I do to Davion Interests, Affiliates, Corporate Concerns and Known Surrogates... and you may be right, there may be zero change to terms offered by the Davion Contracting Official for a first contract with the Federated Suns, While not conclusive it would give indication that even intentional deprivations against a specific Great House has no ill-effects...

...of course the Event System could have a role in all this!

Maybe, just maybe....enough consecutive or nearly consecutive Contracts with Davion Tags (if indeed Contracts are "tagged" by the Enemy you are going up against) will trigger some manner of Davion-related Event!!!!

But then all of this is just fun and entertaining theorycrafting with not nearly enough information to go on. I could be wrong in any of the above particulars. But by taking the opportunity now to try and puzzle it out, I have always found that it'll give me some insights into what to look for when we all finally do get "hands-on" after Launch sometime next month. #CANTwait

Looked at it like that, you have an excellent point. I could indeed be mistaken and there may be no negative consequence to even going out of your way to work against a particular Faction's Interests.

Though I would find it endlessly interesting to be able to work toward my goal of becoming notorious to the Davion Faction, to the point of triggering Davion retaliation.

Yeah, the more I reread your comments and the comments of others, perhaps the Reputation System is not the best way to account for what I am describing here. Even the Event System may not be able to offer the scale and scope of appropriate consequence. Time will tell.

Gah it is this part of the campaign that I am most interested in and the option to let things fail. I will save the Restoration with my first(succesful) play through but will of course go back to let them rot my second time through! Replayability is awesome!

Traditionally in TT, your contracts usually read "Travel to x system and accomplish y." The one screenshot we have of contracts all take place on the planet we are at and have no travel time. We already know that some HBS contracts include travel time. Maybe contracts from Kurita will appear at random or from the event system and always include travel. These contracts could be more lucrative to make up for the lack of a faction store since they do not own a planet out here. OTOH, the event system could have you meetup with a Kuritan gunrunner after you accomplish a mission for them. So many possibilities.
