I'm more or less just messing around as the titular kingdom of Naples and I recently got Venice as a vassal. I rather liked the whole "Serene Republic" part of that Doge and would like to keep it instead of having Venice become incorperated into Italy. I've already tried editing the k_venice part in the landed titles document from is_republic = yes to just needing to be Catholic, but I've discovered I still can't give the kingdom over to the Doge that now rules.
So I figured "Well maybe it's because I'm just a kingdom and not an empire, so I can't give out kingdoms." But I've had the chances before to give out kingdoms when I was playing as Scotland holding Wales and Ireland.
While messing about with the de_jure_assimilation rate to give Naples duchies, I saw two lines of how many duchies one needed to form a kingdom or titular kingdom, so after editing it to simply 1 from 2 I tried giving it again, to no avail.
What I need now, I suppose, is a way to play as the republic of Venice and buy the title myself so that it doesn't become part of Italy. It's bad enough Naples already ate half of Sicily.
Is it something I need to edit in the governments text file? All I see there is just what the holding types start as and that doesn't really help me at all.
