What is the optimal level to maintain Republican Tradition at?
There's no "optmimum", since it's changing all the time... xD
If you want to stay a republic, you want it to be above 60 though, otherwise those despotic events may occur.
If you are going to change gov, you can't be too low afaik.
I was maintaining it in that range, but then it occurred to me that I could probably go even lower. The 75 limit most likely being a force of habit.I perfer to stay between 75~90
For a Merchant Republic, I'm guessing it's much more important? If you want to stay a republic, you want it to be above 60 though

Unless I'm trying to break into monarchy for Age of Absolutism I keep it at around 40 and keep it high enough using Republic is Sacred + Strengthen Gov to chain reelect.
I'm always very sad when Age of Abso rolls around as a republic because honestly monarchies are very boring to me and I much prefer republic gameplay but absolutism creates a false choice there soooooo whatcha gonna do?
To play a late game Republic, get Plutocratic (or Aristocratic, if you started as a Monarchy) and Influence early. Tank your tradition to switch to Monarchy as you work on getting Court and Country. Upon completing the latter with the +20 bonus (which you can't get as a Republic), take the decision to switch back to Republic. Your absolutism cap will then be -10 instead of -30. It's not perfect, but it's high enough that you can reasonably keep playing Republic until the end of the game.
Alternatively, going Revolutionary works too.
