Report on President Maria Mendez of Republic of Sol’s presidency
By Chief Chronicler Johan Andersson
Thirty years. A little over a generation. In this small time, we’ve gone from our first baby steps on the galactic stage to an empire covering seven planets. Much of the groundwork was done by the first President of Republic of Sol, God rest his soul. But it was with Maria Mendez’s entry into presidency, soon twenty years ago, that it really took off. A generation of Sol know her as a strong proponent of expansion, and she oversaw the establishment of good relations with both our known fellow starfarers. As a last act of her second, and constitutionally last, term in office, she even opened our world to immigration of Orassians. Her place in history is surely semented.
On on the request of the Republican Senate, I hereby submit my overview of President Maria Mendez’s presidency and the state of the republic at the end of her time in office.
Map of the Republic anno 2230
The Republic of Sol consists of 23 star systems, of which six has inhabited planets. Unique in this kind is the Alpha Centauri system, which has two inhabited planets. All planets under our control has solely human inhabitants, but with the recent immigration treaty signed, this might very soon change.
First and finest of our planets is of course our ancestral home; Earth. She is our most populous planet. Under President Mendez all the slums of old have been renovated, and soon there will be no more space for further population. Thankfully the other planets of our republic have plenty of space!

Second is our first interstellar colony; Atlantis. Situated in the Alpha Centauri system, this ocean dominated world is our second most populated planet. She has much unrealized potential, with all the poisonous kelp and active volcanos, which science surely will solve for us in time.
Third is Dawn, situated in the otherwise unproductive Sirius system. She has reached her population potential for now, until science can solve the problems with wildlife and vegetation.
Next is Soma, situated in the Scodd system. She too has habitation problems, but she is yet to be filled to her potential. She is notable for two things. First, the hallucinogens, which the President after some consideration let the planet keep, and which has made the planet a popular tourist destination in the republic.
Her real importance lies in her vicinity to the marvelous ruins of the ring worlds of the Duracchus system though. What intellect it must have taken to build it! What a scientific feat! It is ruined, and we cannot repair it. Yet. But due to Soma, it lies within our space.
Next up is a return to Alpha Centauri, where Albion lies. Riddled with wildlife and poisonous kelp, she has soon reached her potential – for now. A relatively newly colonized planet, she has also seen little development beyond the most basic.
Our second to last colonized planet is San Fernando of the Matsonia system. She is the only planet not directly connected to the rest of the republic, with a small strip of open, unclaimed space in between.
New Jamestown, in the Nokkam system, is our latest colonized world. She lies close to our time’s equivalent of the Wild West, as the neighbouring Briscoll and Kongath systems are – while nominally under republican control – in reality in possession of dangerous pirates. Hopefully our navy will soon be strong enough to eradicate them, in the mean time they thankfully keep to themselves, much like the ancient – and extremely strong – outlaws of Hythara in the other extreme of our borders. The planet has a peculiarity though: It has extremely poor mineral quality. Some say the precursor worms of the Vultaum might have had a hand in this.
Our neighbours
So far, the republic has only met two other spacefaring civilizations. The most terrifying one is also the first we met; the Pirak Collective. They lie to our galactic south and are a Hive Mind and ugly looking ones to boot! They only control three planets, and have a population of 31 billion – against our seven planets and 51 billion. It clearly is time we humans got down and laid together!
Next up is the Citizen Commonwealth of Orassia to our galactic north. This race are – at least for now – our friends. And cute ones too! They have a subservient species, the Zemmerpuk, and control four planets. They are quite few, only 6 billion Orassians. But their servants the Zemmerpuk are a whopping 20 billion souls.
And thus ends the report.
