This should be impossible even for Peter Ebbesen, if not I will be very upset.
Never say impossible. Unlikely or improbable, sure. After all, you hear every once in a while of someone successfully surviving as Orleans in EU2, and they have the disadvantage of starting at war with the largest nearby power. ;)

Well not exactly....Congress Poland was annexed directly into the Russian Empire in 1830.

Anyway while it will be incredibly unlikely that either Austria, Prussia, or Russia would allow the Republic to get any more Poles since all three have an incentive to keep the Polakman down. BUT perhaps you can work out a deal to at least keep your independence until an oppurtunity can arrive where you can be the center of a new Polish state....like say a World War somehow shatters the Austrian, German, and Russian Empires simultaneously :D

I think Krakow should ally with Austria since alone among the the three great powers Austria would appreciate any support the Poles can give her. Perhaps a new Polish Kingdom of Galicia and Krakow with the Austrian Emperor as King might be a possible goal...it certainly would be a huge threat to Prussia and Russia and a nice feather in the Austrian cap.

Well, I tend to remember EU 2 and a doomed land called Byzantium, and the TONS of AARs about it, and how EVERYONE has played at least a game with it.

I will try Krakow. Even if to fail!

In the last days of a World War 1, ROK might be able to seize land from the major powers, with vary little threat.

Like in Real Life Terms:

ROK could join allies on November 1st 1918.

The war ended on the 11th... :D

I find this kind of funny as you speak of Austria's friendly attitude towards Poles.

Incidentially, Austria was the nation that happened to annex the Republic of Krakow, in the mid of the 19th century (don't ask me about the exact date).

So it might be a better idea for Krakow to not place too much trust on the Habsburgs in the game.:p

The Polish natural allies, the French ware recovering from the Napoleonic wars and ware distrusted by the rest of Europe, as was Germany after the WWI. If Poland survives, it could join in 1953 the Crimean war and free some provinces from Russia. It should not risk joining Turkey in any of the wars. England is a good bet.

Historically during 1953 the Crimean war 300,000 Russian army was on the Austrian border, including in its Polish territories. Austria mobilised and deployed on the Russian border, thus neutralised the main part of the Russian army without war.

You think so? I'd rather ally with a power I'd have a remote chance of military support from.

Oh I can just sit it now

*English PM*

"Sir, The Army of the Republic of Krakow has invaded Russia!"

"What does that mean?"

"Three drunk Poles are throwing stones at a Russian border guard"

"Oh. Prepare the fleet. We are going to war!"

:p

But seriusly. If Krakow somehow survives this game is broken.

Yes I know the Habsburgs ended up annexing RoK in 1848....but I think they are the most likely to seek the Poles support out of the three powers. Remember in WWI the Austrians were trying to present it as a war to liberate Poland from Russia and tried to recruit a Polish Legion from Russian Poland. The Austrians were not friendly to the Poles in particular but they were no less friendly than they were to their other nationalities. While in Austria the Poles were one among many peoples in Germany and Russia they were a minority in states dominated by one supreme ethnic group...the Poles are definitly going to find alot less sympathy in those two states.

Also I hope I did not imply that Austrian support was LIKELY mearly more likely than Russian or German support :p

My 2 pfennige...

First off, I can't believe I could read that page. I speak German and English, and Swedish (I believe that's what it was) is SO similar. There were only a few difficult words. I know, of course, that they're all Germanic tongues, but I never thought I'd be able to just pick another up like that.
Anyway, secondly, regarding Austria and Poland: true, the Poles have no friends in any of the three partitioning empires. But, of the three, Austria had the most (though little) concern for their welfare. Kaiserin Maria Theresa argued against the partitions, but ultimately acceded, as she couldn't allow the Habsburgs to fall behind their competitors. The Polish Legion has already been mentioned. There's also the fact of a faith in common. The Austrians were definitely the most likely to have tolerated some kind of independent Polish state.
My sister-in-law is Polish (from around Breslau), and she and her family are great people. I hope nothing but the best for tiny Krakow in Victoria. Set it to easy, and anything's possible!:p

Re: My 2 pfennige...

That is because, IMO, Austria understood a Polish state would provide a lovely buffer between itself and Russia. Until the Polish partitions, Austria and Russia did not share a common border.

If I'm Poland, I team up with Austria and hope to take some lands off either Prussia or Russia.

My diagnosis would be a coma... :p :D

Seriously, Krakow surviving would be a joke. Even if it gets Prussia AND Austria as allies, Russia should be able to annex it. Remember, we're talking about one province here! The Russians might not reach Berlin and Vienna, but I think Krakow is dead no matter what.

re Sapper_Astro

Do u guys mean that little light blue speck i can see that is tucked into a nook, next to Russia, Austria and Prussia??

You should know that there was no war between Austria, Prussia and Russia (were all three powers were involved) until WW1. When WW1 ended Poland successfully emerged as independent state. Before WW1 there was NO polish state, even Congress Poland doesn't exist (after uprising 1830-31 it has only nominal autonomy). So if there will be (in Vic) conflict between Russia, Austria and Prussia, or between two of these powers I think that tiny Republic of Cracow can change into something more important for Polish case in XIX centuary. By the way in EU II there were many tiny German states which sometimes gained many provinces.
