As discussed in this thread, and many others having a large family generates and absurd amount of renown, often dwarfing what you get for the actual rulers. Every single person generate renown merely by existing and, over time, they multiply generating even more renown for doing nothing.
My suggestion is to make it so family members only generate renown for actually doing stuff, hence, "employed". By which I mean, being member of the council, court physician, knights, commanders, mercenaries/holy order members and landed vassals under own dynasty. Basically, everything a character can do that doesn't already generate renown otherwise. The amount per character should be roughly equivalent to the current "living member". That way a large family is still beneficial, and, even more, a family spread out across the realm (and other realms) is even better, but you still need people actually doing stuff, not just existing.
