Is there a quick and easy way to reorganize your leaders? Half way trough the game, some leaders have increased in skill, and then you want to put the best people on the best place, or when you switch front. Is the only way to manually assign everybody again to their positions? In the end I might only want to swap a few number of people...

It can only be done manually one-by-one. I usually use the OoB view, because it provides the best overview. First I assign new leaders to the units, whose leaders are to be used elsewhere, so that they come back into the pool. In a second step I put them into the commands they are supposed to take.

But there is no easy way to do it. Auto-assign just produces too many facepalm-moments.

No quick way. I find that if the game is running on speed 1 or 2 I can usually scroll through and slowly make changes without too much difficulty.

You can use the ledger>Military to see who are your best leaders if you sort them by skill but you can also sort them by name, trait (etc.) and you can find them on the map if you click their name. Very useful but apparently few people use it (...)

I eliminate all leaders at games start, and then as i form up corps (of 5 divisions) ill do the leaders. This way i stagger it and take a break and yet get them all done before war starts. I never wait until the end. at most ill have to re-organize a few upper levels say if i amphib someone. I dont try and game the system i try and use what makes sense in regards to officer rating....0-2 for divisions, 2-3 for corps, 3 for armies, 3-4 for army groups, 4-5 for Theaters. Ill adjust that up or down depending on the nation and the quantity and quality of officers.

If you're actively fighting a war, and you just want to jostle people around, the easiest way to go about reassignment is following what Barros said - because it's hard to find everybody when they're all spread out.

I'm kinda sticky about shuffling active combat divisions though - because some of those guys can *rapidly* gain skill, and you might not even notice it if you're fighting a long war on a big front. So I just make sure to mouse over every broken division I find (low org) and if they have a really high level guy sitting on them, I'll consider him for promotion somewhere up the OOB if necessary, because a replacement won't be as bad for the de-org penalty. It just feels terribly wasteful to me to deorg an active combat division by 1/2. The regular OOB usually just sees the Corps commanders getting bumped around otherwise, or a new fancy man getting put in as an army group commander.

Ya, theoretically you want to put a bunch of level 1 guys into combat divisions, then hotkey the leader of the whole thing, and use him to select all divisions, then mouseover all leaders, looking for ones that say (MAX) and reassign them somewhere super high up because they can't gain any more xp anymore... that way you can eventually have a ton of lvl 10 generals everywhere... but i dunno, in practice that part of the game is sooo tedious that i just don't do it... Ideally the ai would be perfect at it, and I'd be perfect at it, which would cancel eachother out anyway, so it makes sense to me to just mod it out... take generals out of the game entirely or somehow make no-traits-allowed and max-lvl=1 for all generals.

Same goes for HQs... there's tons of fun stuff to do in the game already, I don't want to spend a bunch of time making and moving around HQs.

I'd like a mod that removes leaders, and CORPS level hqs, just give me armies that can hold 25 divisions. thx.

That is the way to go. In the ledger, you can sort by skill and pick the guy's that warrant promotion. Clicking on the commander will take you to his unit and you can replace him there--then back to the ledger and repeat as necessary.

I wish the items on different pages worked as well as the generals page.

Sad to say but none of it really matters much. I played for so long without even looking at the leaders, sometimes played without them. All in all i cant remember a game where they had any impact one way or another. This is an issue i have. They should have more of an impact.

I always do manual leader assignments a month before any major action. Ever since I found Rommel commandiing a garrison division in Norway, along with my elite stuka squadron, on June 22, I've done this.

In retrospect, after playing a bit today, all the answers here are correct. It's just a matter of what point you are at in the game and how many leaders you need to reassign.

At the start of a game it likely is best to dump all leaders and reassign as Oliver suggests. At later times, especially after the war begins, it is best to seek the leaders you want using the ledger. After freeing up and or promoting the desired officer group, then switch to the OOB window for quick access to the various formations to complete the assignment.

I love this part of the game. I like picking the best leader (or the 1 I like) and having them gain experience and skills. It adds to the immersion of actually commanding an army, etc. Without the leaders then I am just moving robots around a map. This makes the game so much better.

Yes sometimes it is tedious but once I got the hang of it, it does not take long. I wait until just before the war starts. I unassign all then put the right general in command of the right division, corps, etc depending on the div makeup and where on the map.

I hope than HOI4 has something like this....maybe just a screen that you go to that shows all your leaders and you set it up there. Maybe limit it to corps, army, army group and theater.

That's basically what it was in Hoi2 assyriawest. You just had generals for collections of troops from 1 division - 12 or so, depending on how big you wanted the formation to be.

There are two save game editors made by players that help with this issue.

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?458807-Army-Restructuring-Tool-for-Hearts-of-Iron-3-%28ART%29
Army Restructuring Tool (ART) is a bit more complex that I prefer, but it has a whole lot of functionality. One aspect of ART that some might find useful is that it's possible to show the various units in the program window as they're positioned in relation to all the others so could help when trying to restructure a particular front or geographic area in game.

This is the one I tend to use:
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?448352-HoI3-Army-Organizer-A-Full-Feature-Visual-OOB-Editor
It's simple, straight forward but has less functionality.

I haven't used either in a long while, so not sure which, if either, is still supported for use with mods. You should check the comments section for either or both if you intend to use one or the other.

You can always go in the statistics menu, select the army leaders, sort them by skill and by clicking at them go directly to their unit.

I always do manual leader assignments a month before any major action. Ever since I found Rommel commandiing a garrison division in Norway, along with my elite stuka squadron, on June 22, I've done this.

I tend to put my best leaders in breakthrough units. Don't know if it is better having their bonus for the entire army split. However, having a full Leader skill 8-9 Tank corps with a T 7-8 Corps leader just gives some extra for the breakthrough units.
