I know it's a bit heretical, but I'd like to see less of the pure chrome events. It's nice and all to see the Amelia Earhart events fire off like confetti, but since they don't do anything other than the final two (and not much at that), could we see events like these taken out? It gets a bit annoying watching these things pop up and have them have no effect whatsoever.

I guess it can be done by adding more custom options in the installer... That would solve the problem, right?

It's not the message settings. I know I can get rid of them for other countries if I want. That's not the issue. The issue is the inclusion of lots of events that have no purpose. Playing the US, I get all sorts of World Series events, and the Amelia events, and they do absolutely nothing, except possibly, after a long string of pop-ups, causing a (very) small adjustment of resources and/or dissent. And it's not just the US. Germany has some of these as well, and I'm sure other countries do, too.

I'm all for including flavour, but, please, is it good to bloat the patch/mod with lots of stuff that have no effect on gameplay? I mean, who cares who wins the World Series, to use an example. Now, if the WS events actually caused dissent to change, or added or subtracted resources, sure, include them. Same goes for the Amelia events, to use another example. Only two of the many actually have any effect, and even those two cancel each other out in a very short period of time, but at least they have an effect. Most of these pure chrome events should be purged. It was neat for the first few, but if you include some for one country, you have to include some for all, or people will complain. The way it is now, it's like a band-aid monster that's gotten too big for its own good.

I have to admit that i feel your excagerating the issue a little. I just did a run through of the us event in CORE and there were a Grand Total of 16 events that are flavor events from 1936 to 41. thats less then 3 events a year. I think most of us can agree that thats not a lot.

The events in question are these:

6 world series events. One each year 36-41

1 Movie release, Casablanca. Big hit in the US at the time.

1 Hindenburg Crash. Does nothing to US but would think that a plane crash on US would reach the headlines
1 Withdraw ambassador to Germany. Does nothing because US didnt do much to help out in the prewar diplomacy in Europe. But it sends a signal of displeasement.

4 Emilia Erhart events split into 2 attempts

1 Soundbarrier broken. Again a news item that would get noticed, but didnt influence the life of ordinary US citizens

1 G.I. Bill of rights

1 Einstein letter to the President regarding the A-Bomb

If you think there are other events that dont affect the US please let me know and I will clarify them.

WOOT! That would be great :)

Given the large number of events, I would only like to see ones that have an actually effect in the game also. News worthy events with no purpose other than to inform, I would rather tend to leave out...I have enough pop up windows already. ;)

You've missed my point, which is understandable, since I focussed so much on the US. I was only using the US to illustrate a point, namely, that if you want to be made aware of events that happen to other countries, which can be fairly important, the large number of them gets larger still by the addition of flavour-only events.

Then again, I think there are too many events in the game as it stands. It might be better, since I can already see which way the wind will blow, to introduce some way to filter which countries you see and which you don't. Mostly, I think it'd be nice to have a filter that allows one to see events affecting one's allies, and another aloowing one to see what's happening to the major countries, along with the current all-or-nothing filter.

While I see your point I can tell you that the flavor event only add up to about 60-70 event max for all countries throughout the entire war so its still a lot of work for next to nothing. I agree that a per country selection for msg info would be nice but wouldnt solve the problem as the countries you de-select probably have events that you might want to know about also.

What you need in order for a filter to work is a clasification eg. Major, Minor, Flavor that you can deselect. Unfortunately thats only possible by paradox intervention and I doubt that will happen.

We can improvise that fairly easy. Just add a comment at a certain position of the event indicating the type, so that can be read by a parser. Then you let that create a "Select your playstyle"-event that would disable the appropriate events.

If you say so I belive it :) If you wish to disable them through a playstyle event you could just add sleepevent commands for the ones in question and no parser or such is needed.

Sure, it isn't needed. It just helps with the organization.
