removed as emperor for religious conversion?

Playing as Brandenburg I am the HRE emperor, it's 1502 and I converted to protestantism. The ruler of the Palatinate immediately becomes the emperor and as an elector I find that I ca no longer vote for myself (presumably not eligible, reasons not specified). My ruler is a male and the country is at peace. What happened here? Thx.

Only Catholics can be Emperor until league wars start, at which point the Protestants can try to make Protestants the only legal heresy or the peace of westphalia opens Emperorship up to all heresies. You need to start a league war.

before erbkaisertum only catholics can be emporer. this can be changed with erbkaisertum or the religious wars.

Personally I think its kind of a fun narrative when say the King of Germany and Holy Roman Emperor renounces his crown and title because it runs counter to his religious beliefs
