Use a single ship to check the coasts, put a single ship in a port in a country that is an ally or allows military access. Then you get the same view as a land unit with no attrition on the ship. From several provinces and sea areas, you can see and watch at least half a dozen or more areas with one unit.

In the land case, send a single unit into allies or countries allowing military access. March through barbarian lands.

If you are at war, the single unit loss is not to bad, and your enemy may not even be at war with your friendly nation.

As I recall , but it has been a while since I got them, trading rights allow you to see a lot of what is in a country too. That is part of why the computer is so clutchy about giving them away.

I know two cheats to accomplish the "I want to see everything", but you must work that out on your own....ponder the saved games files or the loading of saved games.

Please try to fight fair as the game is one of strategy and tactics. If you are really stuck, tell me a good joke. Then I will reveal all.;)

The only console command I can think of for it doesn't work in EUR, but does in EU3. It's strange, but that happens.

As Dgotrek said, you could always load a savegame as another country if you're desperate.

Come to think of it, a 'spy' feature wouldn't be a bad idea for this game. Send characters on espionage missions, which can tell you certain things about specific provinces/regions (roughly how many troops, etc). *Ponders*

HOI 1 and EU2 had Fog of War toggles on the options menu. It's really only cheating if you are against a human opponent who doesn't know you are doing it.

I quite like having FOW off on games just to see what's going - who's doing what where. I like the pretty patterns changing on the diplomatic maps.......

It's like still riding a bicycle with the stabilisers on - less chance of falling off - but doesn't stop you hitting a lamp post.

So, if there is an easy way let me know too thanks.

Personally, I like the fog of war because the AI or human opponent has a better chance of derailing my insidious plots. It is more like the real thing.

I agree with Cheexsta that espionage would be a great add in. It would be even better if the espionage was less reliable or flat out wrong based on agent skill level.

I like the Operational Art of War's slow process of revealing unit present, then unit type, and lastly specific details. It all depends on your force's reconnaissance ability at the strategic and tactical levels. It is based on several variables. In VV due to the low tech levels of the era, it should not be to painful for a programmer to set up.

While we're on the subject of adding diplomacy/intrigue options, I would also like more diplomacy actions relating to controlling allies, or even neutral states. For example, let's say you're playing Carthage, with Egypt at war with you and Cyrenaica in between you. Egypt manages to acquire military access through Cyrenaica, not good for poor Carthage. So, you send you're own Diplomat to Cyrenaica and try to convince them to stop giving Egypt access before it's too late. I have no idea if something like this would be possible to mod in, but it would be a nice addition.

That actually sounds really cool. But I bet you'd have to send them money and up your relationship first. And I have a question for anyone out there. I don't understand how, if you're rome and you have a 120 relationsip with carthage (which is really good i know) why they won't give your merchants permission into their land. And for that matter, how do you get them to trade elephants with you? Don't they need roads or something first? Or do you need permission into their lands or whatever?
