Hey there, will the Nazi stuff only be removed from Hearts of Iron IV in Germany, or are Austria and Switzerland affected as well? Seen it a couple of times when the three countries were lumped in together in other situations. Thanks for your reply.

Can't you just switch the language in the options? It seems like countries other than Germany and Austria that directly ban it should get the same version as the rest of the world.

In stores, however, physical copies in Switzerland will probably be German versions.

Think China will ban this game again, since they dispute the fact that the small countries to the west of China were in fact independent, similar to what they did when hoi3 was released?

Yeah, the physical version I don't mind, but the digital one maybe being censored irks me. I don't like my stuff censored. Probably won't buy it if it is.

I'll be playing it in English anyways.

Edit: Didn't know China banned the game, but with all the other stuff their government does they do I wouldn't be surprised.

Why, though? We don't have the laws that Germany and Austria have, so why not just give us the standard version?

You probably will get the standard version, but retailers that sell physical copies may just buy German language ones to sell, without realizing they're different... also, I think Germany is one of the only places that will actually have physical copies of the game, as said in the last www I believe.

You won't buy the game just because Hitler's portrait is darkened? I think that's literally the only difference, unless they blacken Goering and everyone else's portraits too...still tho, that's such a small difference.

You could always easily readd them with a very simple edit. Since it's not illegal in Switzerland, there shouldn't be any reason you can't buy the American or French version online. Hopefully a moderator will clarify this point, or maybe emailing steam and asking them which version will be available to download in your country will give you an answer.

Edit: actually... do you own hoi 2 or 3(and bought it from Switzerland)? Is it edited? Or maybe the steam page for hoi 3 or even 4 will tell you which version you're buying on the main page.

Digital version of HOI3 wasn't censored in Germany (at least back then) since laws regarding that didnt exist when the game was released.

I would assume paradox would allow you to mod that in or hopefully you have a non-German friend that plays HOI4 that can send you that DLC (since there is no DRM in PDX games adaik).

The anti-Nazi laws have existed since the 1940's. Every version of HOI has been censored in some way. Paradox have never allowed Nazi symbols to appear in their game, even outside of Germany.

But there wasnt German specific censorship because the laws at the time did not include digital products.

You get the game from Steam in Switzerland and Austria. Steam know where you live.

Here's the law:
Whoever:

1. domestically distributes or publicly uses, in a meeting or in writings (Section 11 subsection (3)) disseminated by him, symbols of one of the parties or organizations indicated in Section 86 subsection (1), nos. 1, 2 and 4; or

2. produces, stocks, imports or exports objects which depict or contain such symbols for distribution or use domestically or abroad, in the manner indicated in number 1,

shall be punished with imprisonment for not more than three years or a fine.
There has been no change of the law.

As far as i know Austria and Switzerland will get the International version.

The German FAQ on the top is ONLY for the German Version.
