This is what it says on the official CK info page
"Institute and take control of religious orders - choose between the Knight´s Templars, The Knights of St John, The Teutonic Order or the Order of Calatrava and the Order of Santiago. "

I thought that it was only going to be royal families and the likes that would be playable?

Hello to you all btw, this is my first post.

Hello, and welcome :)

It says "institute and take control" not "play". We have learned (see the FAQ thread) that you can control religious orders (even the Papacy!) with your dynasty...

From Greven, one of the developers: "Sorry but there is was unfortenantly a bad formulation in the overview text. You cannot play it as a country as they are organizations and not dynasties. However, your dynasty can take control of an Order. "

That will be the same way with the Merchant Reoublics, so If one of your members is elected Doge, you can control it??

I don't know, but I doubt it... and how will you get an "outsider" elected?

Perhaps one can buy their way into favor as in the Orders? Or have influence over the Merchant Republics as in the Papacy? If one can do this, perhaps some sort of "favored status" could benefit the player's dynasty as in increased bonuses in Trade Tech, less cost for merchants, boost in trade eco?

Might be able to do some of that but I don't think there will be merchants and trade tech as there is in EU. Just my guess though.:)
