It is over. In a lightning quick movement, Protestant throws himself to the side, while shooting forward, hitting Shia fatally in the chest. Shia's revolver, although it was drawn in time to react, was without bullets, due to Protestant's tampering with it beforehand. Hindu, taking advantage of this moment, ran behind a tombstone to try and pick Protestant off while it recovers from the ground, but before Hindu can even turn around after reaching a tombstone, he is hit fatally in the back, twice. Tumbling around, in its final moments, Hindu falls over inside an open grave, perfectly fitting the rectangle-shaped hole in the ground. Protestant, happy with the result, reloads the revolver, walks away, mounts its horse, and promptly leaves the scene.

Protestant is the winner, with 11 points remaining.

Yeah but it will be a slaughter of arguments and opinions again :D. Also policies with their prerequistes and different MP costs (not calling it mana :p) are for sure a very interesting topic to be voted on :)

Depends. If we're talking SP then there's a very clear winner (nothing can touch the Rapid-Integration Act--not only does it save you huge amounts of bird mana if used correctly, it requires two idea groups that you should be taking as a matter of course), but for MP there are a few different alternatives.

Yeah for 1 essential and one or two medicore ideas and a lot of unec crap (also the +1 advisor significantly lost value with the lastest patch) ^^

I often end up not taking Admin ideas b.c. i find it so annoying to have all the merc stuff around later on (when you dont need mercs any more usually)

There's some serious strawmanning going on in these threads. Some people like to play Byzantium every patch (thus the inevitable ";_; Paradox nerfed Byzantium AGAIN ;_;"), some people keep playing the Ottomans/Castile/France/Austria because they like an easy ride, some people never play outside of Europe and some people never play anything but OPMs. Some people like blobbing all over the place and some people like decimating AI stacks with their space marines, but all this is completely effing irrelevant when it comes to the question of which religion/idea group/policy etc is the best. Gimping yourself on purpose for whatever reason does not make your choice better, no matter how much you may like it.

Given all the talk about Buddhism, I wondered what people thought about these changes from the upcoming patch, and how they would affect things
- Re-electing a ruler now gives -10 karma (down from -20) and electing a new ruler now gives +10.
- Reduced Karma loss for starting offensive wars from -25 to -10.
- Buddhists no longer pay any diplomatic cost for releasing nations, releasing vassals and returning cores.
Given that Buddhists can now actually declare war without being hit by an immediate 10% discipline malus, and get slightly cheaper vassal feeding, how would their ranking change?

But how do you define "best"? It seems to me that you (and others) keep defining "best" as "best for blobbing all over the place" and ignore all other types of game play.
