...Church Aspects beat Piety, any day of the week, any month of the year. Not to mention PUs, the possibility of getting HRE (A bit more difficult for Protestants, but it just takes some effort), and delicious Idea Cost reduction and decisions for Christians which rock Shia's to the ground. The worst problem with decisions for Islamic countries is the fact you need good rulers to take them, while you need tech for the Christians', which makes them vastly superior.

Protestant with the 10% idea cost reduction in those days was just easier and quicker to get so I usually picked Protestant or stuck with Catholicism. Now Reformed is even more meh for me

Because of the updates to Protestant? I rarely use catholicism properly, I quite like having the pope be my puppet but its too rare to actually count on now, I used to find it quite easy to manipulate votes but the current system seems to be biased RND against the player, where the pope is almost always French or Spanish, Id much rather they stayed Italian for the most part like they should be.

I like protestant but find it less fluid than reformed, it depends on my position and what I want to acheive to which I go for, idea reduction doesnt sell it that much to me, I usually have more than enough monarch points, I guess it has become much better since development happened though, the easy ideas and the possible tech development reductions do add up. I still reckon its fairly level though and mostly situational to which you should go for.

That actually is true, Protestant needs some refinemend before it is really fun to paly with. (btw. i am sad that catholic is out b.c. with the latest reworks it is extremly fun to play with in my opinion)

3 missionaries is quite the hoop to jump through to secure, Rome's not well-placed for a Hindu snipe.

Rebels ARE a hassle tbh, so I totally get the appeal of camping humanism + Hindu and just ignoring all that. From a strict power play standpoint Hindu isn't even top 5 (I'd put it behind all Christian options and the Islamic ones also, though I'd never willingly stay Ibadi unless screwing around), but humanist Hindu does lend itself to nice bonuses and removes a lot of the drudgery of micro vs rebels. Hindu client states are hilariously stable too (first monarch has 100 legitimacy --> 100% unity no matter where you make them). If you're voting flavor/ease of play over strength, I can see Hindu's popularity.

How in the world Sikh and the new world reform faiths made it so high is beyond me though, especially Sikh.
