Inti can offer the possibility of some quite powerful bonuses without to much drawback and the normal bonuses are also really good. Confucianism is just bad, even pagans got the possibility of -2 RR in good cultured provinces and easier conversion of provinces if you should choose to change.

I actually like the addition of a slider mechanic that forces you to seek balance instead of the usual "pick a direction and thoughtlessly apply all force in that direction". My pick for Mahayana out of the possible buddhist picks is pure flavour, if buddhists would be known for one thing only it would be their tolerance. (imo flavour is a game bonus)
Pagan is just boring

Shia's army morale bonus is very helpful and Buddhism's Karma slider is just a pain in the arse.

Trying to vary my votes (and it's a new day here, anyway). But more generally, while you can work around the Karma mechanic to lob, it's an extra layer of effort that significantly slows you down. Things like Confucian or Coptic may be bland, but they aren't actively detrimental.[/QUOTE]

Let's get the worst religions out first.

Note that I'm assuming all DLC active; without respective DLC Hindu gets a downgrade and (comically) Buddhism gets an upgrade in my ratings because you can flop into 10% morale without the downsides of Shinto if you don't have DLC active with Buddhism.

Confucian and generic pagans are both markedly better than the MP-tax-or-discipline-penalty Buddhism branches.

I'll probably vote differently in the future, once the mob consensus settles on the odd way this one will go. For now I'll vote based on my opinion of how well designed.

Up Catholic. It is the best designed religion - based on diplomacy factors, with events, favoring tall provinces, a -autonomy with drawback event chain, and even a lottery that someone really dedicated to scumming could exploit or otherwise you can just gamble on. All around the best designed currently, I think, even though I rarely personally stick with it...

Down Protestant. I actually think it's the strongest of the 3 Christian, which potentially means strongest of all... but it's just so crummy. The church power mechanic is idiotically useless. You eventually get your aspects one way or another, and then it's who cares. The events themselves are clearly written by a cynical atheist. All around, I go with it for being strong, and then proceed to routinely get annoyed at the events and how lame the mechanics are.

Just so everyone knows, generic pagans get the following now:

- 2% conversion strength from decisions (new to 1.12)
- 20% stability cost reduction decision (permanent)
- +1 prestige (permanent)
- +.5 prestige, though increases your stability cost.

Its baseline bonus is +1 TTF, but it also gives -1 unrest in *all* provinces. These decisions are quite strong; generic pagans should be beating out the Eastern religious group in raw strength IMO. They do not deserve to lose to Buddhism.

Up Catholic because its bonuses are now more meaningful, an it's almost the only religion you can convert from without jumping through hoops (event chains for Japan and Congo excepted). I don't count Sunni/Shia because they play very similarly, unlike Catholic/Protestant/Reformed which have completely different mechanics.
Down Pagan because it has basically no flavor or decisions (as in decisions for the player to make, not the game mechanic of a decision, even though they also only have 4 of those) or really anything.

They have no real flavor though, and you're never finding a province natively of your religion once Abrahamics or Easterns start getting in.
