Looking at the Chirper Monument thread got me wondering:

Are religions represented in the game at all? I doubt it. The way SC 2013 did was quite pointless, imo. This could be a fun mod if possible. Create your own religion (ex. the church of chirper) and there are other religions around the city and draw an infographic map based on religious views.

I think they should definately have churches as this was the basic building block of any city. I think though they should not be ploppable like they did in SC 2013 but they should radomly appear in residential zones just like did in the very First Simcity.
No way... it should be plopable, otherwise we'll end up with churches on every street.

There is no need to have religions per se, but it should include temples from different religions,

Like I said: You should be able to set up the religious composition of your society in the beginning of the game, and each individual should be assigned a religious believe.

For instance, if you set it to 100% Christian, you'll get many churches.

If you set it to 80% Christian, 20% Atheist, you'll get 20% fewer churches.

If you set it to 60% Christian, 20% Muslim and 20% Atheist, you'll 20% fewer religious buildings, of which 60% will be churches, and 20% will be mosques.

Christians will tend to move to homes near Churches. If they can't find one, and they make up a critical mass in some other area, a new Church is build. Same goes for the other religions. This will create different religious communities within your city.

I think this would work great.

Ploppable churches like in SC4 would be nice.
I'm not religious person, but I also do not hate the church / religious people, and thus I tend to have the freedom of belief in "my cities" when I build them.
So different type of churches plz. And huge cathedrals! (I like big monumental buildings..)

There are cemeteries in the game, didn't that have a church building as well? I'm fairly sure it did.

And if you set to 10% Cristians, 10% Muslim, 10% Buddists, 10% Hinduists, 10% Buddfists, 10% Judaism, 10% Shintoism and some Pastafarians, .....
you end up with 3 screens full of sliders about religion, that has almost no influence in gameplay itself. And if you will not gie all those religions their own slider, you end up with some people asking, why one religion is in game, and another is not.

No, thanks. Just focus on city building.

And if people will want religious buildings, let them create mod for it.

You only add the top 5 religions, which can be changed with a mod. And the religious setup is only set up in the start. Once you start building, it is fixed.

Yeah, SC4 had two slightly different ones if I remember correctly. But they were very small.
Now days I have dozens of different churches and cathedrals in it thanks to the Simtropolis community. :D

Like I tried to say, I like to give my little citizens what they want, even if I don't believe in those things. :)

I don't want religions to be into the game at all. If Devs add religions someday I hope it to be optional.
Anyway, I want churches an cathedrals like monuments :D

That's all I envision religion to be for: To determine the type and amount of religious buildings to pop up in Residential areas.

Religion varies so much from country to country, for instance in the UK it is a more secular society where Church attendance (certainly for Church of England) has rapidly declined to the negligible level. In that situation the placement of a church would have little impact on general happiness.

they add character to a city. they look pretty. and big elaborate ones like st. pauls cathedral are landmarks and tourist attractions.

Every time i saw church in simcity 2000, i played whack a mole with bulldozer tool.

Why so much hate?

Religion would be fun in game, just another layer of atmosphere. Not to mention the architectural joys.
