Looking at the Chirper Monument thread got me wondering:

Are religions represented in the game at all? I doubt it. The way SC 2013 did was quite pointless, imo. This could be a fun mod if possible. Create your own religion (ex. the church of chirper) and there are other religions around the city and draw an infographic map based on religious views.

Some different religious building designs that increase residents happiness might be nice. But probably best to keep religion itself out of the game i'd say.

I agree. But having religion would give more substance to my citizens constantly screaming "Why, god?!" as I attempt to explain to them that landfills are the new green space.

I suppose for the sake of realism there should be places of worship.

And, as an atheist, one of the few good things about religions is they do build some very pretty looking buildings.

Yea, I thought SimVillage 2013 was all about trading with other mayors, and competitions to see who can actually connect to the EA DRM first?

I liked trading services in multiplayer. You build expensive power plant and sell power to other cities. Other cities pay for power and you get... NOTHING, absolutely nothing! Trade is bugged as hell after 1 year and you can see how bad that game is.
Other cities pay for power they buy but you get 0 cash back, so why even bother selling. Why do other cities pay for power if i'm not getting anything back except costs to run it? Specialization is worthless and there is no automated trade. You had to send coal/ore/whatever by hand. You couldn't even sell coal cheaper to your neighbors because screw that right? Global market or nothing.

I like the way it was done in SimCity classic and SC2000: Churches should randomly appear in residential zones.

I suppose if you want to add universality, you should have a slider control in the beginning, specifying the religious makeup of your society, and then let buildings of various faiths popup accordingly.

And since we have individuals in the game, the game can assign a particular religious believe to each person. People will tend to live in the community where their religion is predominant.

Religion varies so much from country to country, for instance in the UK it is a more secular society where Church attendance (certainly for Church of England) has rapidly declined to the negligible level. In that situation the placement of a church would have little impact on general happiness.

Please, C:SL is NOT Civilization:Gods&Kings ! So I don't think it's necessary to have some religions in this game.

It is absolutely necesary.

I don't know what cities are like where you live, but where I live, there are churches in just about every neighborhood and most are still regularly attended.

If you don't like churches in your city, just set your religion demographic to 100% atheist, and nothing will pop up.

Churches shouldn't be placed by the mayor. It is private institutions, and as such, it should come up automatically on residential zones. I also do not think it should affect happiness, or anything like that, just like the poping up of houses do not affect anything apart from population. They're eye candy only.

I think they should definately have churches as this was the basic building block of any city. I think though they should not be ploppable like they did in SC 2013 but they should radomly appear in residential zones just like did in the very First Simcity.
