Hello, this picture is found at Wikipedia some where, I could not find the Wiki page again when i decided to write this suggestion. This has probaly been suggested before, but im not very active on CK2 forums, more on the EU4. So im sorry if some one else wrote something similar, BUT im not trying to copy-paste anything.

But anways, something I don't get is in the old gods, and charlemange bookmark, is that orthodoxy and catholicism is not "United" , I know that there was a diffrence between the Latin church and the Greek church.

But why is it a different religion in CK2, before the "Great Schism"? Is it because when they made Old Gods dlc, they dont wanted to bother with it. If not I would like an explanation. :p

If this is TOTALY is an oversee and that no one EVER has suggested this, I will suggest adding a new "United" religion, with some mechanics, that not makes the religion the same all over the world, but still as one religion in the "Mapmode"

Im not gonna suggest one of these mechanics, or how to overhaul the religious system, im just putting this up for discussion. And as I said before this has probaly been suggested before. I just want an answer to why its 2 separate religions.

If you wanna read more about this i will just give you a quick link.

Thanks for Reading :)

Obviously the topic has already been evoked and, long story short, Paradox didn't want to do the great Schism because they thought it was too complicated. That doesn't prevent us in this sub-forum to discuss and theory-craft how it could be done, and if we arrived at a solution simple enough, maybe it will be implemented in a future patch.

I suggest having a look at this thread for a starting point on religious discussions in this subforum: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/idea-dynamic-heresies.879562/

It could be something to add in if they went back to say 600AD with a new DLC.

Rome was part of the 5 patriarchs so they all vied to have a bit of power over each other. With the loss of Egypt and the Orient lost Antioch, Jerusalem and Alexandria. Once this happens they could have some sort of split beginning to happen between Rome and Constantinople.

Also Rome had influence over most of the western world (Europe). What did they all expect? Of course Europe is going to take the guy in Rome more seriously than the other four, even before the fall of Antioch, Jerusalem and Alexandria.

Becouse if they made an united religion it would bean that the pope or the patriarch of Constantinople would be a vassal of the other, and that would be not historicall. And I think that it works better with the separated religions, it doesnt make sence that the russians go orthodox if they were converted by irish monks.
The solution that I want is call catholicism before 1054 Latin Rite, and the ortodoxism before 1054 greek rite.

I'm playing with CK2+ right now and at the Old Gods start and they have a single Chalcedonian religion. Westerners have a trait called Latin Rites while the Easterners have Greek rites. I haven't played long enough to see how the schism is going to happen (or whether it does) but, seems like they've got the setup right. Also, they split the Miaphysite church so that Assyrians are now part of the Coptic Church, while the Armenians stay Miaphysite.

The schism is caused by a series of events. As long as there's a Latin-follower in Rome and a Greek-follower in Constantinople, the events trigger one-by-one until the two split into Orthodox or Catholic, with the Latin becoming Catholic and the Greek into Orthodox. It's brilliantly done.

The schism can be stopped too, which is neat. Really tanks your moral authority until the remaining followers of the opposite rites are extinguished (which happens really slowly as the newly instated Supreme Patriarch converts people to his rite-type) although (since the event seems to drain moral authority whenever someone refuses to flip)
