There is any ideia to release the source code under the GNU license... or the CC? Like the id Software does with their Engines.

There was a fandriven project about reverse-engineering a game that was to look similar, much as there is a similar project for the Civilization series, but I can't seem to find any links to that right now. Google around. :)

It actually wasn't - that one was new to me, but it looks somewhat as if the thread might be a revival of the old project, in which case it actually was what I meant. :confused:

Thing is, id writes 3D engines which are much more short-lived than a strategy game; by the time they release the source it doesn't have much commercial value left. With the Doom3 engine out there's not much market left for a game based on the Quake3 engine. Paradox has been mostly evolving and modifying the same engine ever since EU and its source is probably still very useful. It could be the basis for a new open-source game which would take customers away from Paradox.
