When you release nation you're bound to lose some land. Now imagine scenario where you do have some cores, you religous/culture converted some provinces while other you either took later, didn't core etc. Now ideal thing to do, if you want to preserve monarch points, is to release nation to be your subject. However what if that releaseable nation have cores on those provinces that you cored and converted. My suggestion is that when you release a nation you should determine borders as well as which provinces that nation gets.
