To install, just put those folders into your main demo folder and replace all.

ENGLISH and FRENCH languages fully supported. Spanish and German might not be perfectly translated, though I tried.

Preamble: I noticed that the CKII cultural setup in Scotland in 1066 is downright clunky and awful for numerous reasons. I geuss I got spoiled with the more accurate Mappa Regorum in CKI.

This mod adds a new culture ("Norse-Gael" or "Gall-Gaidheal") to the game, and changes several characters, dynasties and provinces to Norse-Gael culture, complete with historical culture-flipping dates in some cases. It also adds Lowlander culture (which gradually spreads via history files) and gaelicises the default Scottish culture (renamed Scotis).

Changelog:
Version 0.1:
*Norse-Gael culture added, with realistic male name-set (female is not done yet, uses Irish names, sorry)
*In 1066, Gudrod "Mereanach" Crobhan, Gofraid of Mann, Fingal of Galloway and Gille Brigte of Argyll are now Norse-Gaels, as are selected members of their family, ancestors and courtiers.
*Innse Gall, Isle of Man, Galloway, Argyll, Caithness and Dublin are now Norse-Gael culture. Argyll and Galloway flip to Scottish culture in the late 1200s.
*Several pregenerated dynasties are now labelled "Norse-Gael": Crovan, Somerled, MacDubgaill, MacDomhnaill and MacLèoit.


Version 0.2:
*Lowlander culture added (untestable in demo), uses vanilla "Scottish" names AKA lowlander names
*Scottish culture renamed "Scotis" (Scottish Gael), uses new Scottish-Gaelic names
*Lowland provinces will culture-flip from Scotis to Lowlander in a long period between roughly 1100 and 1330

*Cospatric Dunbar is now saxon
*Mac Cóingeal of Carrick is now Scotis rather than Irish
*Malcolm III of Scotland is now known as Máel Coluim III

Version 0.31 (demo final)
*Fixed multi-part names
*Added name-equivalents for regnal numbers (Máel-Coluim = Malcolm, Eoin = John, etc etc)

Celtic. Unfortunatly I haven't found a way to put a culture in two culture groups at the same time.

I'm going to try and find a loophole that would annul the relationship penalty with Norwegians. Still working on that.

I have now successfully split Scottish culture in two (three if you count Norse-Gaels). Of course, there's no way to test it since Lowland culture doesn't appear until after 1086.

I suggest adding in Highland barracks for the Scots and putting the Scot spear one to lowland only.
I also suggest same effects as Russian barracks but with offence not defense.

I may be able to put the modifier in if you are still working on it.

Oh dude this isn't close to being done: I've done all that is feasable for the demo version.

Once the full game comes out I'll have to edit-in lowland-culture characters for later periods, and possibly later Norse-Gaels that I've missed.

And yeah, any help would be cool, although army-composition isn't really the primary goal of this mod, I could make that something to do later on (extremely offensive-minded Norse Gaels with mainly heavy infantry, Scotis with mainly light infantry, defensive-minded lowland scots with mainly pikemen, etc) although that's low-priority compared to modding each individual historic character to have an accurate culture.

Anyway, the current version of this mod works with the demo. I'm still trying to figure out if I'm going to get banhammered for uploading it or not. Although if anyone wants it bad enough I could accidently slip it to you under the table.

wouldn't it be smarter to turn scottish into lowlander, then edit the existing characters to be Scotis? that way every that came later would be lowlander without you needing to edit manually

Any way to have the Outer Hebrides split into 3 counties?

I'd like to see the counties of Lewis, the Uists and Barra and Skye being seperate.


Also Islay probably should be separate from Argyll too.

That would give 7 counties which could form Ri-Innse Gall

No, that wouldn't work. Not every future Scottish character is a lowlander. I'd still have to do the same amount of work, manually removing every future Scottish Gael from the "scottish" culture file and into a theoretical "Scottish Gael" file. What I'm doing right now is simply dragging and dropping future lowlanders into a new "lowlander" file while leaving Gaels in the pre-existing file. Since Gaels slightly outnumber them it's less work.

At this point map editing is really low priority. I'm getting the cultures fixed first. I may do that in the future though.

There are still minor issues with the duke of Lothian, and I think I should make the count of Carrick Scotis or Norse-Gael rather than Irish, but on the whole it should work.

I played as the Duke of the Isles in vanilla yesterday and the mixture of Norwegian/Scottish/Irish vasals and provinces was a bit awkward.

I'm not even going to touch the Isles until the CKII release - I plan on having a long game as that dynasty.

Anyway, version 0.3 is up, which will be the final for the demo.

I've almost finished editing future characters' cultures (the Bruce and Comyn dynasties are taking some time to figure out due to being confusing hybrid-clans with mixtures of Gaels and Lowlanders: I'm having to due them on a individual basis).

Looking in cultures.txt, looks like there should be hyphens instead of underscores in your newly introduced Scottish Gael and Norse Gael names.
I.e. Máel-Coluim instead of Máel_Coluim.

Hyphen is for two-part names, underscore is for the same name in different languages (e.g. Henry_Henry, Heinrich_Henry and Henri_Henry).
