Like I said, a minority (meaning a few, not one; that's an exception), not to mention that PI didnt put the Investiture Controversy in the game.

Yes, but they were not on equal footing with men, for example they were not usually allowed to own property. Interesting reading is the Wife of Bath, a character in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. She is an example of a woman who has achieved independence and wealth through marriage and the subsequent deaths of her husbands. Only through inheriting their money and businesses was she able to own property herself as their widow. On remarriage her property became her new husband's. She seemed to do remarkably well in her choice of near-to-death husbands though. The story is clearly meant to be funny, as in 'look at this woman who has bumped off her six husbands, watch out!', but gives some insight into the social norms of the time.
Of course this is only referring to England, the laws elsewhere may well have been different. I'm sure I remember reading about a similar system in ancient Rome, whereby a woman could only own property if she was a widow, otherwise it belonged to her husband or father.

Unilaterally releasing someone from vassalage is a breach of the feudal agreement, as others have noted. Hence, it should be something that the person you are offering it to has to agree to--the AI should ask itself " Do I want to be independent? Can I make it on my own?" before agreeing. And a lengthy truce would make sense, as well.

Its enough if his primary Archbishopric is de jure of your kingdom/empire, he will come back to your hug happily.
And Archbishies are not much into kingdom titles, looks like they are hardcoded to not form/usurp them, at least have to see one doing so yet.
Just allowing us to release non-de jure vassals as independent realms/transferring them to their de jure lieges should be fine. I once inherited some random duchy in Russia and it was really annoying, especially since i granted it to my son and forgot to make the levies stand down... It was a bloody civil war.
