There are some sorcery/witchcraft and necromancy about that. And that's sounds like some sort of paganism. But I think we can also consider the Hand of Tsannuh as some relic like the Holy Grail, and Tsannuh as Jesus Christ of Calradia.

Edit: Thank you good sir!
The article refers to it as "hand of a God". So there are more gods! Perhaps the main religion could be worshipping few gods (including Tsannuh) and there would be a heresy that worships only Tsannuh

On the topic of naminf religions, in case you want to go with real world names, I would suggest looking into amcient pantheons and religions. For example, I doubt the deities of the hitites or the pre-islamic arabians are so widespread as the vanilla religions, and would be both exotic enough and having sufficoent background if you don't wamt to go with straoght invemtomg new religiona.

Or it may something like the Holy Trinity. And we may consider Tsannuh as the son of God and the Prophet. In this way, "Hand of a God" can be considered as a holy relic from that Prophet, which he also a God.

We may inspire them for the pagans, thanks!

We're using Norse portraits for Nords, Russian and Finno-Ugric portraits for Vaegirs and for Sarranids: Arabian, Persian and Mediterranean (Andalusian) portraits. I never played the Warhammer mod, even the base game :D. Can you give us their screenshots? We may consider to contact with them, thank you for your suggestion by the way ;).

Any chance we might be seeing a download button sometime soon?
Not before update v2.6 and the Reaper's Due. Meneth has revealed lots of new modding changes and some of them was exactly what we needed. But, we're planning to complete everything before that release and be ready to use new things.

Developer Diary #4 - Part II: Sarranid Sultanate

- General
Greetings from the sands of Sarranid! And sorry for being this late. I was planning to release this at midnight but I realized I can make the CoA and flags of Sarranids better! And I did it :D. Before I introduce you to Sarranids, I want to show you the newest things in our mod. We're now using some "mini-mods" from another modders. Which I will give write their names in the credits. First of all, thanks to ZachPruckowski for his entertaining "Additional Objectives" mini-mod. But we have to update it before the big release, that's for sure.

Secondly, I also want to thanks to Korbah and Arakhor for "Adoption Decision" mini-mod. We have lots of old lords without heirs because we created new dynasties for their sons. And that's because we're using the dynasty coat of arms on primary title flags and we had to separated them. Average lifespans in Calradia also increased from about 60 to 80+ for having their own heirs :D. But in any case, both player and AI who past the age 50 can adopt a child, for now.

The last one was the most needed one for graphical issues. Since we're using the dynasty CoA on primary titles and random for the others, we were unable to set border colors. Thanks to logan.monk from Steam users, we're using his mod named "Thick and Thin Borders" from the Steam Workshop. And now our borders are transparent and, vassal borders are not showing but simple province borders. Which is quite reasonable because we're using tributaries for different purposes. I'll show you the difference with screenshots:

Vanilla:

With the "Thick and Thin Borders" by logan.monk:

- Politics
You know our factions are seems like united but they're divided as tributes for each cities from Warband as kingdoms. These are Durquba, Ahmerrad and Bariyye for the Sarranids. They're titular, can be destroyed with gaining de jure equals, and tied as tributes to Sultan Hakim from Shariz. He's holding both de jure empire of Sarranid and de jure kingdom of Shariz. Let's see the de jure kingdoms and the political map, the only difference is the Jameyyed and Mazigh are not in the de jure Sarranids' borders:

Political Map:

De Jure Kingdoms:

Governments (you can see the Sarranids of Ahmerrad are still tribal):

And of course, the claimant on the Sarranid throne, Arwa the Pearled One!

- Cultures & Religions
Sarranid is the biggest faction with the Swadia. They are the latest faction to added in Mount & Blade: Warband. But of course you already knew it. Since they have the biggest numbers of holdings, their cultures and religions are also plenty. Various cultures and religions are the things we making up but we're trying to fit them in Calradia as much as possible. So, let's take a quick look at the culture list for the Sarranids:

Attention!
We're still considering to change the religion names. But most of cultures are okay. Yet, we may decide to change some of the cultures along with religions.

Cultures:

Bezanian (Mediterrenan/Andalusian Portraits):
They're the people who living in Sarranid's coasts of Bezan Sea and all around the Shariz. You can see where that name came from. Shia (or Shiite) is the common religion among them.

Mushreg (Arabian Portraits): Peoples from outer Shariz and borders of Durquba. They're not lucky as the Bezanians because they're living in harsh deserts with all the other folks. Their name's inspired from the Turkish word from Arabic roots: Müşrik. When the Islam has founded, all the non-Islamic Arabs were calling like that. And "Müşrik" means the one who worships to idols, polytheists or simply pagans for Arabic folks. But most of modern Mushreg tribes are Shia Muslim now in the year of 1257.

Haramid (Arabian Portraits): They're the Desert Bandits from Sarrdak Desert in Warband. "Harami" means thief or bandit in Arabic. They have the same phenotype with Mushregs. There are also some generic Pagan provinces in their zones. Paganism in Sarrdak Desert was once the popular religion between the Mushreg and Haramid folks.

Sandman (Arabian Portraits): Well, not much to tell is it? They're the "Sand People" who spreading around the Durquba to most parts of the Sarrdak Desert. Most common religions are the Sunni, Shia and Ibadi of Islam.

Sarrdak (Persian Portraits): Ancestral rulers of Sarrdak Desert. They named the great desert and, once they were rule all over the sands at the time of Sultan Ayzar. They're living in the far easts of the desert around the Bariyye and it's oases. Most of Sarrdaks are still believing in the great prophet of Ahura Mazda named Sarran. He was also the first Sultan of Sarranids in the Ancient Eras.

Qardeb & Pashtan (Persian Portraits): They're the small branches of Sarrdak people. Qardebs are living at the northern Bariyye and the borders of Khergits. And the Pashtans are living at the south of Bariyye as a tribal folk. Most of Qardebs are Manichean or Shia Muslim. And Pashtans are Zoroastrian or Sunni Muslim.

Tarkhan (Turkish Portraits): You know that Khergit folks which inspired from the real world Turkish origins. Once they were spreading in Sarranid but most of their lands are ruling by the Sarranid Emirs from other cultures.

Religions (names can be change!):

- BONUS! RIP Oberyn Martell ;_;

P.S: The joke is the similarities between the House Martell and Bardaqid flags.

- Rhodoks Are Next!
Again, thanks to SBolshevik, we're happy to announce the Rhodoks will be in our next developer diary! Hope to see you with the next diary in this week.

Lack of apostrophes implies that instead of having a character named Arwa with nickname the Pearled One, you've character called Arwa the Pearled One with no nickname. It is beyond me why you wouldn't want to use CK2's nickname mechanics.

So have you guys decided on whether or not you'll be using it?
We're focused on the filling of map history and never discussed it yet. But I think vanilla and DLC portraits are cool for Warband characters.

Lack of apostrophes implies that instead of having a character named Arwa with nickname the Pearled One, you've character called Arwa the Pearled One with no nickname. It is beyond me why you wouldn't want to use CK2's nickname mechanics.
Did you ever seen a nicknamed character without any titles? Well, that's how they looks like.
Code:
6001 = {
    name = "Arwa"
    female = yes
    dynasty = 6001

    culture = "sarrdak"
    religion = "sarrani"

    1226.4.1 = {
        birth = yes
    }

    1244.3.18 = {
        add_matrilineal_spouse = 6101
        give_nickname = nick_the_pearled_one
    }

    1248.5.11 = {
        add_claim = e_sarranid
        employer = 6003
    }

    1267.12.31 = {

Nice work with the cultural names, though I would reacomend using the strategy employed woth "mushreg" to name the sandmen, as that name stand out too much among the others.

As for the religions, besides the renaming, if you use the muslim tags, you are making SoI necessary to play as the sarranids.

Nice work with the cultural names, though I would reacomend using the strategy employed woth "mushreg" to name the sandmen, as that name stand out too much among the others.

As for the religions, besides the renaming, if you use the muslim tags, you are making SoI necessary to play as the sarranids.
Thank you for your advice, we'll look into them before the release.

By the way, isn't that beautiful already?

I was just thinking- why not use Zunist as the chief faith in the Sarranids instead of the Muslim branches? There's only one country in vanilla you can play it as and it would also make sense that a nation living in a hot desert would come to worship the sun (it's also one of the most basic human things to revere). It may not have as much flavour as the Muslim have, but I suppose that could be expanded, even with custom-tailored Calradian Zunist events. What do you think?

Personally I think that Zunist can be use for the old Paganism, in the south, it will be more fun than just vanilla pagan, and Caldarian-Zunist, like in vanilla will have hard time to recover his old land but here, can reclaim the throne in the desert and like you said have some special event! :cool:
By the way, I'm very excited about this mod! :D

Actually, Zunist religion is already in our mod's files. So we can do that. Actually that's a great idea and I'm doing it right now! Especially the Zunist religion fits to Haramid culture (Desert Bandits) in our lore. But of course, we can change all the religion names before the release but it's the same idea :D.

Edit: We're also thinking to add some special events for that bandit cultures, Zendar and the player's mercenary party (Whaaaa?) :D.

Ahah good to know that you like the idea of "Caldarian-Zunism"! :D
And I really want to know what you will do for the bandit and the "player's" party :eek:

Me too. I sorta created a system for something like playing as a band of adventurers, but it required hijacking the tribal holdings sadly. Seeing what you've come up with will be really interesting.

On another note, how many provinces have your map?

Well, we will make these things after the release so I can't give you any details. And we definitely need that 2.6 update for the "player's" party system :D. You know what I mean right? From the Warband? Character creation, choosing a starting faction, become a mercenary, player's party, player's faction or kingdom etc.

Me too. I sorta created a system for something like playing as a band of adventurers, but it required hijacking the tribal holdings sadly. Seeing what you've come up with will be really interesting.

Well we don't know what we can but I know that we have to wait for 2.6 first. And that's why we can't promise anything, yet :D. We have 765 provinces, including the Zendar. And we have 180 duchies without Zendar which is the exact number of holdings from the base Warband game.
