Ok so I've downloaded the mod and unzipped it all in my mod's folder, I open up the launcher and select the Elder Kings 0.2.1 option but when the game loads it just loads vanilla. Any help?

It has to stay as a zip file. So in your mod folder there should be the ek021.mod file and ek021.zip file (and the zip file already containing the in-game folders like common, decisions etc).

Probably just a mistake, when uploading non-image files it doesn't show that you've uploaded something unless you post it

The old system is still available if you don't have Jade Dragon, but you won't be able to do as much as with Jade Dragon

still can't load the mod despite leaving it in a zip file
You shouldn't leave it in a .zip file.

After downloading the mod, make sure to extract it inside the mod folder, into a folder called "Elder Kings 0.2.1", and then cut and paste the "EK021.mod" mod file from inside to the mod folder.

When you're done, your mod folder should contain the followin:
1) A folder called "Elder Kings 0.2.1"
2) The file "EK021.mod"
3) Any number of other mods.

Make sure that if you open the folder inside the mod folder, it shows stuff like "common", "decisions", etc. Sometimes while extracting folders one is liable to extract into a folder within the target folder, or not do so, while the instructor expected the opposite. If instead of those folders, it shows another, open it. It probably has the common etc folders inside of it. Move them up one level.

If the mod still doesn't load, then something might be wrong with your installation, might want to verify the integrity of your game files on Steam.

I think the only info you get is from the SVN log

Are you using version 2.8.3.2 (base game version)? I remember that someone was playing version 2.8.3.1 and encountering the same crash (I did too) and that the newer version was supposed to fix crashing with certain mods.

The game version does need to be updated to 2.8.3.2 - I've also tried 2.8.3.1 and crashed while loading. After updating, no crash.
