I picked up a copy of TT at a local Gamestop. It is a neat game. For my first effort I decided to go with Orleans in the full length campaign. I had decided to pick a small nation on my first attempt and Orleans had borders with some other one province minors to fuel my desires for expansion.
Things did not go as I planned.
Provence declared war on me in the second day of the game and invaded. To avoid a costly battle which would destroy much of my army, I successfully sue for peace. Somes years pass as I strengthen my infastructure and build a respectable army.
However, in that time Brittany has gone hog wild and swallowed two other minors. They are now at my doorstep with an army that includes a thousand knights.
I conclude an Alliance with France to help guard against this growing power in the west. Brittany declars war and attacks me. Despite my attempts to spam peace offers, my field army is defeated and a siege is layed upon my home province.
This seige would last for 30 years . . . . .
The trick is that a successful peace offering resets the seige progress. I would spam a peace treaty down Brittany's throat and three days later they would declare war again. The beseiging army never tried to move from my province, but the few days of peace was enough to put out the fires and get the city wall back in order. Between peace offerings, I had the time to build up all my province buildings to level 7.
My eventual goal was to build up a huge treasury, declare peace, and then hit Brittany with dozens of gifts. Once our relations were high enough, I would try for an alliance and hopefully a more permanent peace would return to the land.
That did not happen since I lost the game due to mishandling a random revolt. I choose to let the revolters die by the sword. I was hoping that the revolters would appear in my province and instantly be slaughtered by the huge army of Brittany. However, I lost the game the instant I pressed the button so I guess my theory was an error.
Anyway it is a fun game as long as you play with some house rules to avoid exploiting the diplomatic system. I was also not thrilled that France never delcared war on Brittany or lended any aid. I encountered a few technical problems:
- no music
- game freezes whenever I try to quite the program from the main menu.
I only encountered one CTD in several hours of in game play.
