I realize, there is an additional expense involved, but the Windows-Mac divide is something that can be bridged with a copy of Parallels Desktop. It has many other applications, as well. I think it's a good investment.

I see you can buy an actual cd version of the game from Amazon UK but as yet I see nothing on Amazon US. I have heard nothing good about steam and would rather not use GammersGate. Does anyone know if Amazon in the us is going to cary the game and if not if I were to buy the game from the uk would it work on a American computer? I have a Dell with Win 7 on it.

I've got news for you. Every version that's not the Gamersgate one uses Steam :laugh:
i've preordered the physical copy of the game on zavvi.com it's cheaper than digital version from GG which is strange to me 
As Zef said, if you don't want to be using steam, GG is your only option, as the devs have said that all the physical copies will be using steam.
Otherwise, I'm certain it will come up some time soon

Why would you have to wait. You just install from the disk. You might only download a patch to fix last bugs that might have been in the version they send to the physical copy makers. I don't know what century you last used steam but I have not had any bugs with steam that would have prevented me from playing a game. There has been buggy games but thats not steams fault.
Just to note that you don't have to have steam on when you play CKII. So your statement of steam causing problems for you is not even a factor of you playing the game.
I had to completely reinstall Steam two days ago, having owned Shogun 2 for about that many weeks. And I had to wait for four hours for it to install on Steam. Quite literally. Can't I just play the bloody game?

The steam client would not take 4hrs to install. I presume you meant it took 4hrs to re-install Shogun 2?
Why not just use gamersgate? I buy most of my Paradox games through Gamersgate, as I am assuming they end up with more money.
