Hi there people,

I am about to start a new multiplayer as Lübeck. From both a roleplaying and a power perspective, I would like to release (independent) Danzig early to make them part of my trade league.

Any suggestions on how to do that? Going for the (non-player) TO without a casus belli? striking a deal with (player-controlled) Brandenburg?

Bonus question, as I never played a trade league before: In my home trade node, I can't release a trade city, thats correct?

From the title I read that Danzig should have a Lubeck core, which isn't that insane I guess.

In my opinion Danzig should make an awesome core land for Lubeck. And it would make sense. If under constant threat by Poland and Teutonic Order, Danzig would be safest if it was under direct supervision by Lubeck for the time being (and released as a sovereign state/city once the Polish threat has been neutralized - i.e. Danzig added to HRE).

To answer the other question: your best bet is to ask Mil Access through Pomerania and wait for the moment Poland declares on TO, then declare a No-CB war and rush to Danzig.

I'm not sure but perhaps humiliate rival CB can release states?

EDIT: I'd really like a new CB called "Liberate free cities".

Danzig is a CoT or Estuary? In that case, its better to have it as your own core. Plopping a trade post there for 50 ADM gives you alot of trade power to push trade value down to Lubeck.

You can release trade cities in your home node. If possible, release Bornholm. An island trade city is usually safer from predators.

Won't the Brandenburg player want that province for himself? Not sure what benefit he'd get from letting you have it. Sure he doesn't need it to form Prussia, but it'll be an ugly dot within his borders.

Sure he would. But if I would be Brandenburg, I would rather make a weak future enemy an ally in a conflict at hand than going in alone or maybe miss a chance. He could even create a chance to snatch Danzig even easier that way. I ofc will try to avoid that. A matter of taste in diplomacy and schemes, I guess.

Hm, I was thinking about allying Poland early and join them in fighting the TO and peace out early. any opinions on that? Or maybe DOW the TO myself and promising them land so they help me. Thoughts?

From what I remember from my last Lubeck game, you can only release one trade city per trade node. So Bornholm would be good in terms of defensiveness, but as a low dev province, it might not give you much in the way of trade power (unless the AI developed it of course)

Yep, the AI loves to develop provinces, especially their capitals.

The thing about Lubeck is that if they don't blob abit, its harder to attract OPMs into the trade league. And if you are no careful about your rival selection and allies, you'll find your trade league getting smaller as a result of diplomatic relations.
