There are many aspects of EU4 that were the subject of ancient long-forgotten DLC. Some of that stuff occassionally gets reinvigorated, but more often parts of the old stuff get integrated into the base game.

There have been some talk about revisiting South_East Asia in the future, and I've been thinking about the Buddhist religions - they are seen as some of the least interesting to play, in part due to the Karma mechanic. Long time ago Orthodoxy was given a secondary mechanism, to make it more interesting. How about doing something similar with Buddhism, but there is no need to actually invent new content here. Instead we can use already-existing mechanic (kind of like how the Faction mechanism got reused for Revolutionary Nations and later Pirates.

What is Buddhism known for? Monasticism of course! Let us give Buddhist religion Monastic Orders - same mechanism as what the Iberian nations get. As iberian Orders are tied to Catholicism and Islam, there would be no overlap. Three Monastic Orders to choose from, there could even be a bit more variety based on specific branch of Buddhism, and I would even suggest sharing those Orders with Confucianism and Shintoism, to represent the powerful presence of Buddhism in China, Japan and Korea.

Some other new stuff that could be used to reinvigorate old stuff.

Innovativenes - currently only Anglicanism is tied to Innovativenes in any way. How about giving Protestant nations a new tenet (for owners of Rule Britania and Common Sense) that increases innovativeness (if that feels like it could make Anglicanism less appealing, Innovativenes could instead be introduced to one of the Muslim schools for owners of Rule Brittania and Cradle of Civilization).

Flagships - how about adding some extra flagship modifiers outside Europe? Chinese treasure ship? Or maybe something to represent Japanese or Indochinese seamanship.

New Personalities utilizing new modifiers - the Manchu patch added new personalities for Chinese Emperors, how about adding some that affect some less-used ones. Horde unity, some religion-specific modifiers like Fervor or Piety.

Some nation/culture group/religion specific native policies - I have a feeling like this is a mechanic that has been forgotten so long ago few people even remember it exists except for that single time they select it and nevver change it - give us more reason to consider changing it from time to time.

Trade policies - I know they are a bit restricted by the UI, but if all else fails, there could be replacement policies available under certain circumstances (rather than extra ones).

New Edicts - I can't believe no new edicts have ever been added! Overall, I feel like there should always be at least a bit of cross-DLC stuff in the game. Eg, owners of Mandate of Heaven and Dharma having some extra edict in India or something. The possibilities are endless, and not that much effort is needed. It even boosts marketing, as it incentivezes owners of one DLC to consider buying the other for some extra fluff.
